October 20, 2021 www.DesertMessenger.com 9 "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." ~Mahatma Gandhi The Salvation Army happenings Thinking about being a Red Ket- tle bell Ringer? We will have bell ringers and counter kettles around town. This annual campaign starts the day after Thanksgiving and runs through Christmas Eve. Bell ring- ers will follow COVID-19 guidelines and safety protocols. The Salvation Army helps strug- gling individuals, families, and com- munities thanks to our Red Kettle Campaign partners. The public's generosity has allowed us to serve nearly 31 million people nationally this last year. The funds raised in Quartzsite stay in Quartzsite to provide much need- ed support for those in need. Stop by for an application. You set your own schedule of time and day. This is a volunteer position that you can sit down at and still help our commu- nity. Please consider this fun event. Face coverings are required in the store, with nose and mouth covered. We are also using the one camel six- foot safe social distancing. Hand sanitizer is available around the store. We continue to sanitize carts/ baskets, counters, as well as most donations. We appreciate your un- derstanding and cooperation. Our adult and child diaper program continues. We have new wheel- chairs and transport chairs for loan, thanks to Town of Quartzsite grant monies. Remember you can always call my cell afterhours for this type of assistance. Donations continue to be received on our porch area. Our motto for what we accept is "Would you give it to a friend?" Yes, it is fi ne to bring clothing on hangers if you like. We must take all items out of boxes and bags, to sort and sanitize into our carts. Thanks for your patience and understand- ing that at times we get backed up at our smaller porch sorting area. For larger loads, please call and we can make special arrangements. We continue to have a rack of free clothing and miscellaneous items as well as many food items to choose. We have a collection box for the 4- H TRICK OR TREAT SO OTHERS CAN EAT program. Please add to our box for our local Denim 'N Dust 4-H youth group. Canned foods and other non-perishables are be- ing collected and will be donated to our local Food Bank. THANKS!
