Some locals, though, can get frustrated as our quiet little community begins its annual change of demographics and population. We are creatures of habit. Rou- tines become automatic, but change jolts us into consciousness, some- times in uncomfortable ways. "We don't resist change because we're neurotic or cowards," says psychologist Harriet Lerner, author of "The Dance of Anger." We like certainty, because it makes us feel safe and secure. Most local residents do get very excited to see our friends return from their northern adventures. We look forward to the opening of our seasonal businesses and the deals our vendors bring. Some of us are anticipating the fi rst music jams to begin, winning at local Bingo games, or when all the activities start at the QIA. And what new specials are the seasonal restaurants offering this year? And what exciting deals will we fi nd this season? This year, our Canadian snowbirds will fi nally be able to return to their favorite winter nesting spots in Quartzsite! After such a long time of uncertainty and waiting, I think we are all looking forward to seeing everyone again! Welcoming our friends back to their winter home can be like re- turning to school after summer va- cation. What new stories will they bring to the campfi re? What new memories will we make together this year? What new relationships will be formed? With the success of Oscar winning fi lm NOMADLAND, it appears it's going to be a very exciting season! Quartzsite visitors come from all over the world. We welcome the di- versity our visitors bring each sea- son. We want you all to feel welcome in your winter home. Keep smiling and enjoy the adventures of being in Quartzsite for the winter! "Our diversity is our strength.
