6A Daily News – Wednesday, July 3, 2013 Commerce business&enterprise Passing the torch at the chamber It's that time of year again. Time to hand over the reins to the next Chamber Chairperson. I'm pleased to announce that Darlene Koontz, Superintendent of Lassen Volcanic National Park, will be your next Chamber Chairperson. It's been a pleasure working with Darlene on the Executive Committee this past year and I look forward to my new title of "Immediate Past Chair"…the title to wear with pride. This past year I have been able to form great relationships with City Council members and City staff, work hand in hand with great volunteers, Ambassadors and a Chamber staff that puts the Energizer Bunny to shame. We've been able to bring some new events back to Tehama County like the Cowboy Golf Tournament and the Business AfterHours Mixer which were both huge successes promoting the business community. We've also helped to make sure Red Bluff has a fireworks show this year and we helped to ensure the Crawdad Festival didn't go away which can be a huge boost for tourism and Branding. It's been great working behind the scenes and getting to see all that the Chamber does for this community. If you see a parade, that's the Chamber. Independence Day meals can be enjoyed at more than 170 participating Iron Skillet, Country Pride and other full-service, home-style restaurants within TA and Petro locations. "We seek to honor the service by the men and women who have valiantly fought for our country by inviting them into our restaurants to share a meal. We recognize that they sacrifice personal and family time doing what needs to be done to keep America safe," said Tom O'Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters. "We know that about one-third of drivers in the trucking industry are military veterans. Not only did they serve our country in the armed forces, they continue to serve by ensuring the safe and reliable transport of goods across the country; often times away from their families for days and weeks at a time." In 2012, TravelCenters served meals to more than 15,000 veterans and active duty military service men and women on Independence Day. Proof of service includes: U.S. Uniform Services ID Card or Retired ID Card; Current Leave and Earnings Statement; Veterans Organization Card; photograph in uniform; DD214; or Citation or Commendation.
