UPDATES FROM GAMMA PHI BETA A SLICE OF PI GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN • FALL 2021 I t is hard to believe yet another school year has begun! What shouldn't come as a surprise to any of you is that we welcomed a fantas c class of new members during recruitment this year. I am proud to say that Pi Chapter con nues to ensure that membership is strong and upholds our high standards and core values of love, labor, loyalty, and learning. With a new school year comes new challenges. As I have highlighted over the past year, COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our members as well as our community. This year, unfortunately, looks to be no different. Rest assured that the Affiliate House Corpora on (AHC) is ac vely working with leadership, from advisors to elected undergraduate members, and we place our current members' safety as our highest priority. We will con nue to navigate these unknown mes and ensure that the house is not only safe for our members to live and enjoy their free me, but also to ensure that our sisters are able to partake in ac vi es and enjoy the chapter house in a safe manner. A quick update on our home: we focused on several smaller projects this summer. We updated and enhanced the basement to provide a cohesive space for members to enjoy each other's company as well as a new and improved study space so our sisters can con nue their academic excellence. We also brightened the inside of the house with fresh paint on the main floor. If you have an opportunity, please stop by the chapter house to see the new and improved space—we have received wonderful feedback from both alumnae and poten al new members during the recruitment process. As with any home, we always an cipate and prepare for unexpected repairs and projects that require immediate a en on. Several necessary projects are on the horizon, including improvements to the kitchen. Due to solid and capable leadership over the years and prudence in the management of financial resources, AHC can more easily plan to make these necessary repairs and improvements. Last fall—and in direct response to the challenges faced by our current members due to COVID-19—the 415 Fund was established to assist those members who experienced financial strain due to the unknown and unforeseen consequences of this global pandemic. I am happy to report that we con nue to receive generous dona ons, and we are inching closer to our ini al goal of $20,000. To ensure that our members can maintain their membership in Pi Chapter, please consider suppor ng our collegians facing ongoing financial hardships by dona ng to the 415 Fund. If you wish to donate and help us reach our goal, please send dona ons to the address below. As always, I appreciate your considera on and support. Pi Chapter Gamma Phi Beta House Corpora on P.O. Brostrom '09 (Continued on page 3) A Year of Growth Pi Chapter Exceeds Expectations A s I head into my senior year of college, I am in awe of how Gamma Phi Beta has shaped my life over the last three years. This community is special, and I am humbled every day by the opportunity to lead the sorority this year. We are entering the fall with hope. Things are looking up, and our calendar is full of exci ng events that we have been wai ng to hold for more than a year. We are seeing the return of formals and in-person philanthropy events, and we are gathering as a sisterhood once again. I cannot wait to see what this year has in store! Looking back on last semester, I'm so proud of the growth we've experienced. We saw our chapter GPA increase to 3.7, the highest GPA for a sorority or fraternity on campus for the second semester in a row! Our goal of academic excellence has con nued, and we are seeking growth in all areas this semester. Staying Safe and Improving the Pi Chapter House
