Redstone invests in area youth clubs Redstone announced in July that it will donate $2 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama (BGCNAL) to support its capital campaign. How can you create a resume that gets better traction these days? Optimize your resume for Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Over the years, the application process has become largely automated. Software called Applicant Tracking Systems now often sees your resume before anyone else does, checking for specific keywords that fit the job description. Without the proper keywords, even the most qualified applicants can slip through the cracks. Fortunately, there are plenty of sites, like Jobscan, where you can optimize your resume for ATS. Include links to your professional social media. Professional social media sites such as LinkedIn and blogs allow you to humanize your job application. They provide the perfect opportunity to highlight other skills and experiences, like volunteering and side projects, that didn't make it on your one-page resume but help distinguish you from the rest. LinkedIn profiles are also HR's first stop for a background check. Decide if a visual resume is appropriate. If so, embrace it! Visual resumes are a great way to grab an employer's attention for certain fields, such as marketing or design. Just be sure to keep the design professional and readable – no busy borders or artwork (this can actually mess with ATS!). Resume templates, such as those found on the website Canva, are helpful tools when making a visual resume. Of course, some 'old rules' still apply: Proofread carefully and weed your resume down to only the most relevant experience for the job you are seeking. Make your first impressions big ones!
