How Can You Help IndIana Gamma? INDIANA GAMMA CHAPTER Welcome, New Members! FALL 2020 SPRING 2021 I want to ask you to step back in time. Think about your time living in the chapter house as an undergraduate. Who were your roommates? Do you have memories of the housemother, the cook? When you got back from class for the day, what did you look forward to doing? When Friday afternoon arrived, how did you relax and blow off steam from the week of schoolwork? Which sorority did the chapter long to have mixers with? How might this have been different had there been a pandemic during those years? Now consider the active brothers in the chapter. Due to the pandemic, brothers' meals, sleep, socialization, coursework, and almost all of life happen within the walls of the chapter house. Out-of-house brothers often haven't been allowed to visit the house or share meals with the live-in brothers. It has also been a chaotic academic year, to say the least. Quarantines, altered semester schedules, very frequent COVID-19 testing, ever-changing social policies/restrictions, and Zoom classes are certainly a departure from the care-free lifestyle we, as alumni, all enjoyed as undergraduates. All of this is without considering the personal and organizational struggles we can all identify with. Many active brothers have had personal income reductions (whether through family under/unemployment, lack of summer job internships, and general economic depression), family illness/deaths, reduced in-person family visits, and an education experience no one could have predicted. Our staff members (live-in house director, cook, handyman, and housekeeping) have remained dedicated to Gamma Chapter despite the impact the pandemic has had across campus. They have helped with heightened cleaning, hygiene and property protocols, and carried the load as the live-in brothers spend 50-75% more waking hours at the property. This has caused stressed budgets, staff illnesses, and increased meetings/training. I can only imagine the curveballs and hardships the pandemic has presented you and your loved ones. For those of us who have endured and value the experiences, teachings, and friendships ΣAE has given us, I ask that you consider how we might best support and further welcome the active brothers in our chapter. When your company is ready for internships and entry-level employees again, would you consider helping ΣAEs from Indiana Gamma obtain interviews? Can you join many of your brothers who have given back through their generous gifts to the chapter and help the Indiana Gamma House Corporation remain financially sound? Perhaps you already have, so would you consider further support in the name of your Little Brother, past roommate or another brother you keep close touch with? There are many ways to help Indiana Gamma, even during the pandemic. The current generation has had a college and chapter experience unlike any of us can imagine. These men will be closer for the increased hours within the chapter house and time spent together. However, many simply think they missed out on the fun and good times so many of us recount from our glory days as an undergraduate. What can you do, as an alumnus, to support and foster growth in these young men who have stayed committed to their studies and ΣAE?
