It must be preserved (however modified) and maintained for future generations. Quite a few of us have been through the ritual several times now. It isn't dated at all. These guys got it right. It's a blueprint on how to conduct your life and treat others. ~ Vern Smith '73 • For those who appreciate what being a SigEp at Mizzou did for them, including building a foundation for lifetime relationships, you can pick up from your undergraduate days with your brothers, whether it's been a year or decades since you last had contact with each other. We owe it to the members of the new SigEp to make sure they have the necessary support for their relationships to thrive. ~ Ed Clausen '84 • I think the importance is based on what you originally put into the fraternity and what you got out of it when you graduated. I was fortunate in that my closest friends today where those brothers that I met and spent two and a half years with at 405 Kentucky. Those friendships should inspire you to pass this on to the next generation—meaning that you should want today's new members to experience what you did when you were a resident in the house. ~ Mason Laster '84 • The chapter is evolving to adapt with changing times and has many needs. ~ Mark Schordock '84 • We all had many "best friends" in our undergraduate days, and it takes just a little effort to keep those friendships going for decades. I still claim most of my close friends as my '80s-vintage brothers. Involvement with the chapter not only keeps those relationships going, but it adds new faces with the common SigEp bond. It's extremely rewarding to invest in something (Missouri Alpha) and enjoy the results (a revamped chapter back on campus). ~ Adam Baer '85 • A year and a half ago, Brother Bob "Nelly" Nelson '88 died from brain cancer in San Antonio. Several SigEps faithfully visited Nelly after his diagnosis. We lived through 35 years of the greatest times and one year of the toughest. On the weekend before he died, Bob was surrounded by his best friends. Those best friends were SigEps. ~ Greg Olwig '86 • It is important for alumni to stay in touch to ask the undergraduates if they need help or mentoring. It is very fulfilling to listen to the undergraduates and help them problemsolve and brainstorm ideas for the chapter. ~ Phil Schroeder '87 • It's a great opportunity to stay connected with brothers and give back to the chapter. ~ Paul Shomper '90 • I would give my left arm for another year at 405 Kentucky. It was the best time of my life. I had a ton of great memories. Most of my current friends are all guys I met in the house. ~ Greg Raeman '91 Q&A WITH THE ALUMNI BOARD (Continued from page 2) If you didn't receive this newsletter via email, please send your email address to our communications coordinator at kunderdown@penningtonco.com.
