He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late James Russell and Duffy Shelton Guyton and was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Guyton, and two sisters, Pansy Guyton Bell and Naomi Guyton Jones. Mr. Guyton served our country in the US Army, first in the Korean Conflict and a second term dur- ing the Berlin Crisis. He is survived by his wife, Delane Parker Guyton, of the home; children: Lanny Dewitt Guyton (Marisa), Jupiter FL, Jill Guyton Nanney (Bryan), Oak Island, NC, and Dawn Guyton Strasser, Murphy, NC; five grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Joanne Parker, Marshville, NC and Lorraine Belk, Monroe, NC. YANCEY ELLIS Yancey (Yank) Ellis, 99, of Shelby, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021. A native of Cleveland County, Ellis was the son of the late Gertha Gay Bridges Ellis and the late William Gordon Ellis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebekah Putnam Ellis and by four sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Rebekah (Becky) Ellis Adams and husband, James of Torrance, CA; son, William Baxter (Tim) Ellis and wife, Lynn Bankhead Ellis of Belmont, NC; daughter, Karen Ellis Clarke and hus- band, Donald of Shelby, and son, Stanley Scott Ellis and wife, Jeanne Lynn Ellis of Shelby; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchil- dren; and his sister, Martha Ellis Askins of Charlotte. The funeral service was held July 30, 2021 in the Clay-Barnette Funeral Home funeral home chapel, offici- ated by the Rev. Dr. Danny West. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester Hayes Rogers, Lowell Rogers and Carroll Dean Rogers.
