However, the Delt brothers have worked hard to overcome these challenges and strengthen our brotherhood. This semester marked the beginning of restrictions lessening across campus as we saw vaccination rates skyrocket among Cornell students and our own chapter. As a result, we began to move toward normalcy. For the first time in a year, we began to work together in the library, eat dinner together, and, as the semester progressed, even hold chapter meetings together. Not only did we hold these internal events, but we also invited potential new members to outdoor barbeques and poker nights to begin making ties with men outside our chapter. Resuming these events has given us a head start on recruitment for next semester and helped develop our plans for acquiring new members and reaching out to the greater Ithaca community in the coming semesters. The National Fraternity has taken note of our leadership throughout the pandemic, granting us the Excellence in Chapter Operations award at the 2021 Northeastern Division Conference in February. Despite all the obstacles we faced this semester, our academic efforts flourished. Our cumulative GPA has risen to an impressive 3.61, continuing to climb from past semesters. Our director of academic affairs, Benjamin Feldman '22, helped us achieve this historic standing with his hard work, such as encouraging brothers to nominate each other for "paper plate awards" WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS Matthew Cabrera '23 Alexander Hoffmann '22 Maximilan Mendoza '22 New members Matt Cabrera '23, Alex Hoffman '22, and Max Mendoza '22 embark on a morning hike with Logan Vegna '22, Spencer Hurst '23, and Xihang Wang '23. when they demonstrate perseverance through academic challenges or assist other brothers with their work. Despite the minimal contact on campus this semester, we maintained our philanthropic efforts and expanded the sustainability of the Shelter. Thanks to the efforts of Brother Feldman, we have begun composting food waste produced during dinners. Our philanthropy chairman, Spencer Hurst '23, has helped plan events for next semester, when we are able to have events on campus again, such as creating a pie stand on Ho Plaza where students can donate to JDRF and shove brothers' faces in whipped cream pies. We hope that once campus opens up, we will have more opportunities to not only support JDRF, but also engage with the Cornell and greater Ithaca communities in fun, innovative ways. We would like to thank you all for constant support and dedication to our chapter and the values of Delta Tau Delta. In particular, I would like to thank the tireless work of Graham Seward '07, Luke Zabinski '16, Andy Howlett '07, and Justin Hedin '10 over the course of this semester and the entirety of the pandemic. Their assistance and guidance with chapter operations and affairs have been crucial to the success of our brotherhood. It is thanks to the everlasting support of the alumni network that we have succeeded and continue to succeed. We hope that when restrictions lift next semester, we may reconnect with alumni who find themselves in the Ithaca area. Please stop by the Shelter to visit should the opportunity arise. We are always happy to exchange stories, receive guidance, and use the experiences of the past to shape the future. Fraternally, Bryce Roth '22 Chapter President (646) 491-1516 / ber72@cornell.edu
