2 ALPHA TAU OMEGA T he past year has been difficult for Gamm Rho Chapter due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We have not been able to operate as normal, but this has not stopped us from succeeding in many areas, especially academics. The brothers of Alpha Tau Omega worked hard to raise the Chapter GPA, placing us in the top five of large chapters on campus (those with 100- plus members). Our fall 2020 GPA was a 3.229—the highest it has been since being reinstated as a Chapter at Mizzou. Additionally, we had three members achieve a 4.0 last semester: Nick Hauser '18, Jack Burton '20, and Carson Schieber '20. Also, senior Terrell Christian '17 won the prestigious Mizzou 39 award, which highlights 39 seniors who have outstanding grades, are great leaders, and are greatly involved in the Mizzou community. As of April 2021, the University of Missouri is beginning to lift restrictions, allowing chapters to plan bigger events. This is something we desperately need. Though it has been tough to raise money during the pandemic, we did host a town drive before Christmas break, which raised enough money to buy around 70 toys for children in need. Things are looking up at Mizzou and in Columbia. This fall, we are excited to host our annual philanthropy fundraiser, alumni events, and service events like in the past. We are also planning a golf fundraiser to honor Drew King '20, who sadly passed away this year. Over the next few months, we will be working collectively to bring back these events. One achievement that you cannot put a dollar amount on or number of hours to is how much our brotherhood has grown in strength. We faced a lot of adversity over the past year, but our Chapter prospered and grew stronger. Often, brothers were only able to talk with those in the Chapter House. This forced us to become closer to guys not just in our pledge class, and I am proud to say that, even though we were not able to reach our numeric goals from past semesters, our brotherhood excelled just as our founders and alumni would expect in such unprecedented times. Right: Senior Terrell Christian '17 won the prestigious Mizzou 39 award, which highlights 39 seniors who have outstanding grades, are great leaders, and are greatly involved in the Mizzou community. T he loss of Drew King '20 greatly affected the Greek and University of Missouri communities. Everyone in Greek life showed their support for our active brothers. Fraternities and sororities sent cards along with prayers for everyone at Alpha Tau Omega. They also showed up to our candlelight vigil and have helped us through the bad days. Brothers at Gamma Rho have banded together and grown closer. Everyone's thoughts and prayers are still appreciated. I hope everyone is having a great spring and doing well in this crazy world we live in. We have a bright future ahead of us at Gamma Rho Chapter. With COVID-19 coming to an end, we can start planning more events. We look forward to hosting alumni reunions this summer and fall, and we hope to have at least one event each in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Chicago this summer. We also look forward to football weekends returning in the fall. Please check your email for a survey I sent out regarding alumni events this summer. Alumni Weekend will take place the weekend of September 18, when the Tigers take on Southeast Missouri State. As of now, Missouri is expecting to have a full stadium and everything back to normal. We plan to host a tailgate before the game with more activities afterward. I will send out full details for Alumni Weekend soon. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me.
