The 2020 new member class is so excited for their first $20k in a Day philanthropy event. Avery Malloy '18 and Kate Plunke '18 celebrate Tri Delta's $20k in a Day virtual event for St. Jude that took place in February. T hroughout this semester, our Continuous Open Bidding Committee has worked hard to seek out women who would make an amazing addition to Theta Iota Chapter. As the spring semester ends, the recruitment team is preparing for formal recruitment in the fall. Our VP of membership experience, Haley Hutton '18, has been meeting regularly with the K-State Panhellenic Council to make sure we have all of the resources and support we need to make this recruitment season the best one yet. While a "normal" recruitment week may not take place this year, we are getting creative and working through challenges. Our new officer structure has been a blessing during this time as there are additional women on board to brainstorm new ideas for round plans, outfits, bid day themes, and more. PHILANTHROPY FUN As of this writing, our chapter has raised over $53,000 of our $75,000 goal for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital! Director of Philanthropy Clara Veldhuizen '19 has done an amazing job stepping into such a big position amidst the COVID-19 restrictions. At the end of February, we had an online fundraiser with a goal to raise $20,000 in one day. We passed our goal with a total of $22,351.28! In April, we hosted a favorite event, Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP), serving breakfast food and beverages on top of unlimited pancakes at the Chapter House. We also partnered with the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity for a percentage night at Chipotle and Panera; a percentage of each meal will be donated to St. Jude. We were pumped to join other Greek chapters in the annual Derby Days, a weeklong competition between sororities, hosted by Sigma Chi. The winner receives a check made out to the philanthropy of their choice. We have won the last two years, so we definitely have a reputation to uphold! STRENGTHENING OUR BONDS As restrictions begin to loosen in Manhattan, we have tried our best to get every class and individual sister as involved as possible. We started off our semester with a Galentine's event in celebration of Valentine's Day with our sisters. We then had a goth-themed mixer with the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. We love getting to build good relationships with other Greek houses! To help our new members make memories and grow closer, we held a PC '20 sleepover at the Chapter House. This included games, movies, snacks, and some homemade treats made by our house mom. Next, we had a blast at our Great Gatsby-themed date party. Following this, we were invited to a Sigma Chi "tennis girls and golf bros" mixer. THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT Toward the end of the semester, we were so excited to have our moms in town for Mom's Weekend, including a painting class, flower arrangement event, brunch, and shopping. The semester ended in the best way possible: with our Spring Formal. Director of Social Events Lydia Vriezelaar '20 has really helped us all make the most out of this spring semester. It's been a great one, and we can't wait to welcome you all back within the next year!
