What would you say to encourage alumni who are on the fence about giving to take a leap and donate? A Chapter does not have the ability to support a capital fundraising campaign— only alumni have the ability. Those on the fence need to remember that Sigma Chi was good to us. Now it is our turn to step up and make it happen! What does it mean to you to have received the Significant Sig Award this year? How did you find out you had been bestowed the honor, and what was your initial reaction? I have always been proud to be a Sigma Chi; to be honored by them makes it very special. I received a letter from Brother John Bibo '74 informing me that I was joining a very select group of Alpha Nu Brothers who had received the award. What are the top three things you learned or gained from Sigma Chi? • A good education levels the playing field for all. • It is more rewarding to give than to receive. • Hard work pays off. What are you most proud of in your career and/or personal life? • Success in education: CPA, J.D., and Master of Law in Taxation-NYU. • Success as a tax attorney and in business: auto dealerships, hotels, and oil and gas. • Success in my personal life: married to same gal for 57 years, and two children who have followed in our footsteps. Is there anything else you would like to add about your time with Sigma Chi, or that you would like to include about your life lately? If you do what you like in life, it is not considered work. As a founder of the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio, I invite all to come visit it. Jack and his wife, Valerie, reside in San Antonio. Visit www.briscoemuseum.org for more info on the Briscoe Western Art Museum he founded. (Continued from page 1) Sitting Down with Significant Sig and Campaign Donor Jack Guenther '56 T his spring, the Alpha Nu Chapter of Sigma Chi persevered through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and house construction project. Our Chapter initiated 10 new Pledges this spring, bringing our total membership to over 100 active brothers. We remained active socially and brought back events such as SnowDaze and Derby Days this semester. We also worked to boost morale and bonding with a variety of brotherhood events. For example, every month we held a two-man scramble golf tournament for brothers at the Hancock Park Golf Course. Academically, Alpha Nu performed exceptionally well this year. Our brothers earned a GPA of 3.4 during the fall semester and worked hard to improve upon that this spring. The Chapter is gearing up for summer recruitment and is looking to return to the days of 50-man Pledge classes at Alpha Nu. Overall, the state of the Alpha Nu Chapter is strong. Our brothers have overcome many challenges over the past few years. However, the men of Alpha Nu continue to meet those challenges head-on. With COVID-19 cases falling and capital campaign construction nearing completion, the brothers of Alpha Nu are looking forward to the fall semester. We're excited to see our alumni return to 2701 Nueces!
