The Alistair MacLean story boasts an intriguing starring duo in Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood, playing World War II officers united to retrieve an American general held by German captors in a fortress atop a mountain. The 1968 tale has two major assets in Arthur Ibbetson's cinematography and Ron Goodwin's music, and it's interesting that Burton made it largely to act heroic in something Elizabeth Taylor's sons could see. Mason Cook, Michael Provost and Bobby Tisdale also star.
