Nu Chapter of Chi Omega at the University of Wisconsin • Spring 2021 THE NU'S Χ Ω T he spring of 2021 continues to define our new normal. Our lives, whether at school, in our jobs, or in the world, all look a bit different these days. Our beloved Chi Omega has faced many new challenges and is responding to these in ways that are redefining what membership means in our sisterhood. The COVID-19 pandemic has created an environment where many of us have been forced to isolate at home for the safety of ourselves and our families. Having support, hope, and connection becomes much more vital when we miss our daily interactions with friends and family. The Chi Omega collegiate experience continues to evolve to create new sisterhood bonds virtually and in small groups. Chi Omega National has focused on getting local chapters to find unique ways to connect as well. The Chi Omega community has been challenged to examine what membership offers to new recruits. The diversity, equity, and inclusion committee has made several recommendations. Some of these changes have already been implemented and others are in process. The detailed recommendations can be found on the ChiOmega.com homepage. Nu Chapter is expanding our membership experience to offer relevance to collegiate students and to follow the needs for organizational evolution. Chi Omega National is providing enhanced leadership training to its officers. Our Chapter is also focused on increasing mentoring and networking among our members and alumnae. We are featuring a section in this newsletter with information on how you can support Make-A-Wish and our Nu Chapter sisters with a donation. Many of you contributed to our housing renovation campaign and we can't thank you enough. We have made significant progress on achieving our goals for major repairs to the Chapter House. Our fundraising campaign has been paused as our priorities changed during the pandemic. Our renovations are also on hold while we focus on providing a safe housing environment for the active members. The mental health of our Nu Chapter members was identified as a high priority even before the pandemic and, especially now, requires a higher level of awareness and use of resources. We have also been looking for ways to increase affordability for membership and housing. Our new normal looks different, but we still hold the bonds of our shared Chi Omega sisterhood. If you are interested in volunteering, mentoring, or networking, I encourage you to contact me. We could use some new ideas and energy to help navigate our evolution. So far, we have received $622,300 in pledge payments, bringing us to 81% collected. While our renovation efforts have been put on hold due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is still imperative that we complete these pledge payments. Thank you to all who have fulfilled your capital campaign pledges and to those honoring their balances with final payments. For those who have scheduled installments due in the future, you should be receiving payment notices the month prior. If your pledge schedule has lapsed, we have attempted outreach via letter and email in hopes of successfully closing our books in 2021. Your response is appreciated! If you would like to confirm the status of your pledge, or have questions on how to pay, please contact our communications coordinator, Caroline Hammond, Eta Gamma '05, at (785) 550-4223 or chammond@penningtonco.com.
