PAGE 3 KanSaS BEta D espite the struggles of COVID-19, the men of the Kansas Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon had a fun, productive, and safe year. We are happy to announce the initiation of new men into our brotherhood, our successful recruitment, a thriving social environment, and continued success in both the classroom and Greek community. We have made significant academic progress compared to the last couple years. Just a short semester ago, SigEp's GPA was just above a 3.0. Due to commitment from the executive board and RLC chairman, we raised our Chapter GPA to 3.29. This compares to an IFC GPA of 3.38 and all- men's GPA of 3.06. We know this is not our peak, though. With the return of in-person classes along with continued hard work and dedication, we hope to increase our GPA semester after semester. In addition to academic success, Kansas Beta continued our annual philanthropies, but this time in a COVID-safe environment. We teamed up with the women of Delta Delta Delta to host a socially distant drive- thru cookout benefiting the children at St. Jude. This turned out to be a fun and safe event for us, the women of Tri Delta, and the many friends and family who were able to stop by. Philanthropy Chairman Jack Root '23 said, "[It was] a very fun day in which we were able to enjoy the company of our friends, connect with the community, and contribute to a good cause." Kansas Beta initiated four men into our brotherhood last fall and 20 more this spring. Both groups have strong men with bright futures in SigEp. One of the highlighted features of the fall new member class is their diversity. There are four out-of-state members in the class, with two from Illinois and Nebraska. Recruitment is underway for the next class of new members, and Vice President of Member Development Cole Manning '23 shared, "We are very proud of our recruitment efforts last year, bringing in guys from states we have not had members from in many years. We hope to continue this momentum, and I encourage all current brothers and alumni to reach out and recommend any young men they think would make great SigEps." The Chapter has also been busy working together as Balanced Men on campus. This past fall, we teamed up with the men of Beta Sigma Psi and the women of Alpha Chi Omega for Homecoming week. While events looked a little different this year, we found success in the 5K and social media contest. This spring, Kansas State Fraternity and Sorority Life brought back the famous Greek Week competitions. We are proud to announce that after all the hard work and coordination of Greek Week Chairman Reid Franke '24, we were crowned champions! Outside of the house, members are involved in several activities and organizations. Kyle Ruder '22 spent another season as manager of the Kansas State women's soccer team and was appointed as the Interfraternal Council director of risk management for the 2021 calendar year. Jackson Shepheard '22 and Kenny Gavin '22 served as managers for football and men's basketball respectively. We would like to thank all parents, alumni, and friends for all their continued help and support this past school year. You helped make our Chapter truly successful. Please feel free to come home to SigEp to visit anytime!
