ΣΦΕ EARTBEA H T UNIVERSITY OF OREGON s SIGMA PHI EPSILON Oregon Beta SPRING 2021 D ear brothers and friends of Oregon Beta: I hope all of you have remained safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. It seems like we are finally turning a corner with the pandemic. I cannot wait to return to Autzen, watch a Ducks game, and resume the SigEp alumni tailgates along Leo Harris Parkway (join us if you get to a game!). During the pandemic, your Alumni Volunteer Corporation has remained active, using Zoom (like everyone else) to serve the Oregon Beta Chapter. Here are a few updates. As reported in the last issue, we were fortunate to have leased 1000 Alder from October to July to Hyland Construction, who has converted the first floor into temporary office space for their staff while they complete a large project on Franklin Boulevard. The lease is set to expire on July 1, which brings us to the next important decision we had to make. The AVC, with great support from SigEp National Housing, has secured a lease with the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity to house their chapter for the 2021-22 academic year. This agreement also includes an option for two additional years that would ultimately extend the lease out until the end of the 2023-24 school year. It's hard to believe another fraternity will be occupying the Chapter House, but this will provide us the financial security to plan for Oregon Beta's return to campus in fall 2023, while also supporting the Greek community at the University of Oregon. We continue to explore whether a major renovation or the construction of a new property would serve our future undergraduate Chapter the best, and we value any feedback you may have during this important decision- making process. The pandemic has created many challenges at both the local and national level for all fraternities. Accordingly, SigEp Headquarters is getting creative to provide undergraduates a positive fraternity experience. I would like to highlight one new program in particular that may be of interest to you: SigEp Career Coaching. The goal of the program is to connect a SigEp alumnus with an undergraduate brother who shares a common career interest. If you are interested in learning more or signing up, please visit www.sigep.org. It only takes a brief survey to get started! So far, 100% of participants (both alumni and actives) have indicated this was a valuable use of their time. It was great to read the "Swamp Stomp" memories in our last issue, and we want to continue to use the next two years to highlight the achievements and stories of our many great alumni! In addition to any news or memories you would like to share, in our next issue we want to share your favorite stories about the Mill Race. Please send along any stories and pictures to Brian Stewart '82 at brian.stewart3@comcast.net by September 1. As always, if you have any questions or comments related to Oregon Beta AVC operations, please do not hesitate to contact me. Fraternally, Todd Ruberg '82 AVC President ruberg1@yahoo.com LEASING PLANS PROCEED Your Continued Feedback Is Appreciated
