Morwood '92 Bradley A. Sherry '98 Will Cassidy '05 T he weekend before his freshman year began, Kiran Phansalkar '82 had only considered two fraternities. He chose Delta Tau Delta because of brothers like his hometown acquaintance Dwight Beck '81 and other members such as Kevin White '79 and John Pixley '81, who impressed him with their devotion to academics, athletics, and all of the social life the OSU campus had to offer. "I only grew up with one sibling and no brothers, so all of a sudden I had 30 pledge brothers out of 100-plus Delt brothers," Kiran said. "This taught me the benefits of teamwork, organization, goal-setting, and generally getting along with all types of people. I absolutely loved it, and never lived anywhere but the Shelter throughout college." Those benefits set Kiran up for long-term success, which he has enjoyed in his law career. He is a partner at Conner & Winters, the third-largest firm in Oklahoma, where he has built great relationships with his business clients and mentored young lawyers for 25 years. He has been named to the Best Lawyers in Oklahoma, holds the highest professional and ethical ratings from Martindale Hubbel, and has argued in front of both the Tenth and Fifth Circuit Courts of Appeal. Kiran's favorite memory from his Shelter days was serving as director of athletics, putting Delta Chi's best athletes in the right spots of the right sports; Delts won the All Sports Championship for the first time during his junior year as a result. He was also on OSU's all-Greek softball and volleyball teams, and the OSU Greeks beat the OU Greeks each time. The skills, memories, and lifelong friendships Kiran developed as a Delt made supporting the Pledge Delt Again campaign an easy decision. "I wanted our fraternity to continue to attract the best and brightest students and a new Shelter was an absolute necessity to make that continue to happen." If other brothers have even half as much positive influence from their Delt experience as Kiran has, he encourages them to join in and contribute however they can. Most of all, Kiran is thankful to be a present husband and father of two children. He is invested in all their sports and theater activities (his son, Roman, plays baseball at OSU and his daughter, Alyssa, is an active singer and performer) and has enjoyed watching them mature into successful and kind young adults. In their spare time, Kiran and his wife, Rebecca (a former OSU cheerleader), enjoy traveling the country and attending various OSU sporting events. Connect with Kiran at kphansalkar@cwlaw.com. DELT DEVELOPS THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST Why Kiran Phansalkar '82 Pledged Delt Again D uring the summer before his freshman year, Todd Edmonds '16 was tricked by his childhood friends into going to a Delta Tau Delta recruitment event. He thought they were simply going to a cool college party, but they ended up staying the night and attending a few more recruitment events. "I was originally not planning to join when they gave up trying to convince me and just let me leave with a bid," Todd said. "Long story short, I eventually signed the bid and joined the brotherhood with some convincing." Todd will be forever grateful that he joined Delta Chi Chapter as some of his best friends and closest mentors came from the fraternity. "Delta Chi provided me with so many great opportunities," Todd said. "It gave me a platform and support system, which allowed me to go after whatever I wanted." Similarly, he was able to offer his support to the brotherhood through his involvement in the Interfraternity Council. Todd was elected as secretary and eventually president of the IFC, following in the footsteps of one of his mentors, Vaughn Vennerberg '76. "We had just made a resurgence after a large withdrawal of membership," Todd said. "My pledge brothers made a tremendous push for change and building up a fraternity we would be proud to leave behind." Todd was succeeded in presidency by Mason Strom '16, creating one of the few back-to-back terms for any fraternity. HARBORING SUCCESS How Delta Chi Helped Shape Todd Edmonds '16 (Continued on page 6)
