Spring Concert Guitar Winners Article Provided By: Pat Nanney North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey is extending his sincere appreciation to the hundreds of volunteers in the Department's Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) for their help in saving senior citizens more than $37 million in 2020. "I appreciate the work these volunteers do day in and day out – not only during National Volunteer Week," said Commissioner Causey. "These hard-working people selfl essly assist our older North Carolinians with their Medicare needs and questions, many of whom are on a fi xed income and need to save every penny to live." North Carolina now has more than 2 million Medicare benefi ciaries. Last year, more than 900 SHIIP volunteers helped more than 62,000 Medicare benefi ciaries with issues related to Medicare or long-term care. "Without our army of remarkable volunteers, SHIIP would not be able to reach out to so many Medicare benefi ciaries in our state," Commissioner Causey said. "I'm very grateful for their continued service to their fellow North Carolinians." SHIIP counsels Medicare benefi ciaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare Part D and long-term care insurance. Seniors and caregivers can fi nd local SHIIP volunteers by searching the SHIIP web page at Search For a Counselor By County webpage. Since the program's creation in 1986, North Carolina's SHIIP has become a role model for other states and has received two national awards for "innovative" and "exemplary" service. SHIIP counselors are not licensed insurance agents, and they do not sell, endorse or oppose any product, plan or company. If you have questions about your specifi c plan, we encourage you to contact your insurance agent or the insurance company.
