Page 5 S A E I ndiana Beta has been incredibly successful throughout the hard times the world is facing. Our Chapter GPA keeps rising as we navigate the new landscape of hybrid learning. With the help of revamped study areas in the Lodge, brothers can complete their coursework from the comfort of home. A new computer was recently purchased, which has been in heavy use by many of the brothers. COVID-19 presented a challenge for learning; however, Indiana Beta had no problem overcoming the obstacle. BONDING AMID UNUSUAL TIMES We had an impressive recruitment season with 26 new members in the fall and 34 this spring, bringing our total new member count for the academic year to 60! I am excited to see the Lodge full of new brothers in the coming years and to hopefully return one day and see the prosperity. To keep moral high, we have been working with our brotherhood chairmen to come up with ways to keep everyone involved. A new grill was purchased for the back patio for brothers to use as the weather warms up, and we have enjoyed the opportunity to grill burgers and relax outside on the occasion while adhering to socially distanced guidelines, of course. LODGE MAINTENANCE Small improvement projects have been going on around the Lodge. Most Sunday mornings, brothers work together on projects, whether that be painting walls, building benches, or anything we can think of the spruce up our home at Purdue. This has been wildly successful with one of our alumni, Kevin Dolen '91, helping us with ideas and advice. LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE Greek life has faced some difficult situations in the recent semesters, but Indiana Beta has overcome this and thrived where most did not. I am always available to talk, so please reach out if you have any questions. Phi Alpha, Austin Faust '22 Vincenzo Mazur '23 Previous Eminent Archon New Eminent Archon (832) 589-4114 president@saupurdue.com austinfaust@gmail.com SAE at Purdue Welcomes 60 New Members in 2020-21 Academic Year Academics, Social Activities, and Chapter House Upkeep Important to Active Members W e have a goal to add 60 new members during fall 2021 recruitment period, so please make sure to send in your recommendations now. Virtual recruitment worked well for spring 2021, and we'll start a similar virtual process in June 2021 with a goal of at least 30 new commitments before school (and rush) starts in late August. F all 2020 recruitment resulted in 27 new members despite the process adjustments due to COVID-19. At that time, there were many freshmen who declined to go through recruitment, because they knew Purdue, on Tippecanoe County orders, had banned all in-person activities including recruitment and socials. We couldn't legally recruit face to face, although some of our competitors ignored the rules. ΣAE played it straight, and we surprised the Greek community with our success. Spring 2021 semester recruitment saw ΣAE turn up the wick. We initiated 35 new members to top everyone, and this success was the result of the great leadership of Reuben Trane IV '23 and Tyler Metzinger '23. Potential New Members (PNMs) saw the value of ΣAE and wanted to sign up with the best-known, most-respected house at Purdue. We acquired a cloud-based CRM application that made it easy to email/ text more than 175 spring PNMs on an organized basis. For fall 2021, this software will help us communicate with more than 5,000 PNMs. We aim to build on this success for fall, so we'll begin virtual recruiting no later than mid-June. Our actives and the PNMs have mastered this virtual world, and we'll exploit the technology and ΣAE's reputation to post unprecedented new member totals. Headcount is more than bragging rights, because it gives us a deeper bench, a sustainable critical mass, and stronger financials. As all alumni know, a strong fraternity needs more than a tight brotherhood to flourish. RecRuitment SoaRS at indiana Beta Focused on Maintaining Strong Numbers for Fall 2021 Do You Know a Future Brother? do You Have an old compoSite pRint? B rothers, we have an URGENT need to replace our composites so we can have as many as possible covering the walls in all our public areas. If you still have copies of composites from your time, please contact Wayne McIntyre '64 at wayne.mcintyre@ yahoo.com or (408) 930-1438. If you are able to loan Wayne your composite for a professional scan, we can then enlarge it to a size comparable to those we're missing. This important project will help use preserve ΣAE Purdue's proud legacy.
