THE THETA UPDATE 2 Making the Most of College Life Amid the Pandemic A L P H A M U A C T I V E S F O C U S O N H E A L T H , S A F E T Y , P H I L A N T H R O P Y , A N D F U N 10.75" F rom navigating a hybrid virtual/in- person learning model to hosting virtual recruitment, the 2020-21 academic year has been unlike any other. However, the health and safety of our members have been at the forefront of our minds. Alpha Mu actives have worked diligently to facilitate both virtual events and socially distanced in-person events following the University of Missouri and Boone County guidelines. CELEBRATING OUR SISTERHOOD As we shared in the last undergraduate update, the school year began with our first virtual recruitment followed by a socially distanced Bid Day, where members attended in shifts and welcomed the new members into Alpha Mu. Our fall 2020 Bid Day theme was "birthday" to commemorate the 150-year anniversary of Kappa Alpha Theta. FALL 2020 ACCOLADES Last fall, undergraduates at Alpha Mu adjusted to hybrid and virtual learning, and our chapter earned the highest grades across the Panhellenic community. In addition to our classwork, we were able to safely spend time together at football games and sisterhood events. We are proud to share that two seniors, Madeline Brownfield '17 and Brittany Smith '17, were selected for Mizzou's Homecoming court, and our members loved celebrating their accomplishments throughout their time at Mizzou. SPRING 2021 HIGHLIGHTS This spring, we held a hybrid informal recruitment where we gained 12 new members during a Valentine's Day-themed Bid Day. In early March, we raised more than $5,000 for the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation and the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) at our annual CASA Carnival event. As Boone County and Mizzou have changed their event guidelines to align with the CDC's recommendations this spring, we have been able to host more sisterhood events in small groups. We are looking forward to resuming in-person classes, meetings, and (bigger) events when it's safe to do so in the future, but we've learned to value the strength of our sisterhood, especially throughout the challenges we've faced throughout the past year. ALUMNAE KEY TO CHAPTER'S SUCCESS Thank you for your ongoing support of Alpha Mu Chapter and commitment to Kappa Alpha Theta. Alumnae like you show us what sisterhood for life looks like and inspire us to stay true to Theta's values in all aspects of our lives.
