Spring 2021 S I G M A P H I E P S I L O N AT C O L O R A D O S C H O O L O F M I N E S THE STOPE Spring Is in the Air So Much Good News to Share About Colorado Delta A s the spring semester enters the home stretch, the AVC has started summer and even fall planning. There is a lot of news to share with you, but before I jump into that, I hope this edition of The Stope finds you healthy if not also wealthy and wise. Now, on to the updates. Our active members are thriving on campus, as demonstrated by their Chapter of the Year award to close out 2020. Among all fraternities, SigEp was selected for this prestigious honor based on a multitude of factors, including campus participation, academics, and peer input. Even through the rounds of quarantines when a few members tested positive for COVID-19, our undergraduate brothers and spring new members have persevered. They also have a strong plan for the fall, as the campus is expected to emerge from "pandemic mode." Not to be outdone, Chapter Counselor Jared Canada, Lambuth University '07 was named the Volunteer of the Year by SigEp Headquarters. His dedication to the undergraduate members through his guidance, counseling, and the occasional motivational speech is greatly appreciated and now duly recognized. The AVC is looking at the next round of house improvements. As we shared in the last issue, repairing the concrete aesthetics from the drain line replacement in the lower hall is a priority. The study room remodel is also something I'm very excited about. We have a few plain old "it's just time" projects to complete, such as the women's restroom remodel. Pending estimates and our available line of credit balance, we hope to complete all three of these projects over the summer. Which is just in time for… CONCLAVE! This year's event will be held from July 28 to August 1 in Denver. Details are still being reviewed, but we're encouraged about the possibilities of Conclave being in person, even if there needs to be limited attendance. So, if possible, I'd love to see Colorado Delta turn out with a large showing since we're one of the hometown chapters. Last, but certainly not least, we have early and exciting details for Homecoming weekend to share. The McNeil Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation will have its ribbon cutting during Homecoming (date and time to be announced). If you can make it to Homecoming to support Charlie McNeil '71, you should also plan to attend the alumni tailgate barbecue. With the cancellation of last year's barbecue, I'll have to come up with something doubly tasty to grill. I hope to see you there for great food and fellowship!
