We apologize for the gap in communication. The past 12 months have been akin to a game of Whac-a-Mole, as frequently changing requirements in Corvallis required regular rethinking of plans, budgets, and priorities. Notably, like other fraternities, the chapter house had to close for the duration of last Spring. Our Fall occupancy was 28, followed by 38 this Winter/Spring. Financially, we are operating at break-even. We are pleased to say the chapter has handled this very well. The undergraduate leadership has responded and performed admirably, and it's safe to say they have done more than survive. You should be confident and proud of them; they continue to lead in all areas. AVC UPDATE Obviously, the AVC's focus has been the chapter. Recruitment was a success despite the challenges—special thanks to Randy Everett '91 for serving as the alumni guide. Regular and everyday efforts by chapter counselor Jayson Hoffman '14 have proven effective. AVC Treasurer Jake Roselli '15 projects a good financial year, and of course, Steve Cook '76 has responded to changing safety requirements. CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION We'd likely be in a pickle had we moved ahead with design and construction as planned 24 months ago. We are determining how the collegiate experience will change in the wake of COVID-19, what impact it will have on the fraternity, and how small-group living will be impacted. We recently completed a replat of the two properties we own, which is a city of Corvallis requirement for future upgrades. Specifically, we modified the five tax lots on NW 26th Street into one, and did the same with two tax lots on NW Arnold Way. During that process we formally communicated to the College Hill West Historic District our intention to use the Arnold Way property for parking, to which they objected. The city considered the public's input and agreed to grant the replat. Our next step is rethinking our renovation plan and formally submitting to the city in light of post- pandemic realities. CAMPAIGN UPDATE First, a thank-you to those of you who committed, have paid, or are currently paying your pledges. Of the nearly $1.4 million pledged, 78% has been paid, which is on schedule. Your gifts are valuable, appreciated, and acknowledged. Second, once the property plans and construction costs are redefined, we will reach out to continue asking for support from our vast alumni network. The inclusive brotherhood and environment that Oregon Alpha has and will provide merits support from us all. STAY TUNED FOR MORE We alumni who are involved with the chapter regularly have have been consumed by the pandemic—within the chapter and our own lives. Going forward, you will receive a printed newsletter (like this) in the Spring and Fall, and email updates as necessary. We know an annual gathering in Portland will prove a winner, as will other events. We look forward to hosting you as the world becomes safer again. Please let either of us know if you have questions or concerns. Each chair has a small brass plaque affixed to the back bearing the name and graduation year of that brother so recognized. Brothers gave generously in support of Brother Lehman and as confirmation of the special place Oregon Alpha was in their lives. The chairs are now in place, awaiting a formal dedication tentatively schedule for the fall of 2021. The chapter members passed the hat and provided Craig with a pair of cowboy boots as an interim thank you. Oregon Alpha alumnus and former SigEp National Housing Director Ken Maddox '75 summed up how much this gift means to the chapter: "Brother Lehmann, in his fashioning of these tables, extends the legacy of his father. How many thousands of meals have been shared over those tables? How many thousands will be shared in the future? His gift ensures there is a proper setting for our fraternalism to thrive." the CrAIg lehmAn FAmIly, the ClAss OF '69, And OregOn AlphA's dInIng rOOm (Continued from page 1)
