M y name is Breyar Baker '17 and I am the current Worthy Master of the Delta Nu Chapter. I grew up in a small town called LaMoure, North Dakota. During my senior year of high school, I toured the University of North Dakota and instantly fell in love and knew that this is where I belonged. I started college as a biology major, but I quickly learned that was not for me. Aer a few more switches I came to rest on airport management. During my free time I love to watch movies, hike, travel, and hang out with friends. Aer graduation, I would love to go work for an airline as a flight attendant for a few years so I can travel and see the world. Recruitment Over the last year, we have felt the various effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including its impact on our recruitment efforts. With the opening of the new house, we were hoping for a big, exciting week, but due to safety restrictions, we were unable to host an in-person event. Even so, we managed to pull in the largest pledge class we have seen since spring 2017, with seven guys. is spring, due to cold weather, the turnout for recruitment was less than desirable, not only for us but many other chapters on campus. To combat this, starting in February we have been hosting biweekly recruitment events. rough these events we have gained one new pledge along with three potential new members. Looking to this fall, we have already started planning out recruitment week; we intend to continue the biweekly recruitment events. ese events do a great job at bringing in new members while increasing our already strong brotherhood. Scholarship and Service Previously, as an organization and a brotherhood, we have failed to prepare our members for success academically. But this semester, under my leadership, we have made the necessary changes to our scholarship bylaws for brothers to grow academically. While we have already seen major improvements, our goal is to one day be above a 3.5 cumulative GPA for the chapter. is is a steep goal, but we've seen a drive within our brotherhood that makes us believe this is obtainable. For instance, while UND hasn't mandated any community service hours for Greek members during the COVID-19 pandemic, we've still had brothers step up in and around their communities to offer help and assistance where necessary. Our New Home I would love to give big thank-you to everyone who made the dream of returning back to 3000 University Avenue a reality. When I first joined the chapter, we were renting the old Pi Kappa Phi house. I actually moved out of the dorms early and into the house in November of my freshman year; I made so many memories that will last me a lifetime. During the time without the house, you could definitely feel that things were different. Without a central place for everyone to come together and hang out, we started to become disconnected as a chapter. However, I can say without a doubt we are stronger now than I have ever seen. e house allows us to come together and form the true ties of brotherhood. Goals for the Chapter My goal as Worthy Master is to help build on the fact that we are America's No. 1 leadership fraternity. rough my years in the chapter, I have not seen us do the greatest job at this. Positions were not well distributed and there was not a whole lot of involvement with committees. One of the first things I did in the beginning of the semester was assign appointed positions to members. I wanted to fill these positions with some of our newer members to help them learn how to manage and hold a position. My vision for this is to help members learn to be comfortable holding a position and, once they are ready, move on to one that requires more responsibility. I truly believe that doing this will help us succeed in living up to ATW's reputation of leadership.
