of gardening for a good cause. e town of Lincoln also is known for several historical reminders of our state and country's past. e Bean Cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only cemetery in the country that is the final resting place of slave laborers who died while building the railroad through the town. e Arkansas County Doctor Museum is one of only two country doctor museums in the United States. e museum occupies the former private home and clinic of three country doctors who lived there from 1926 to 1978. e exhibits include medical instruments, memorabilia, an antique horse buggy and vintage car. Located approximately six miles southeast of Lincoln, Cane Hill College was the home of the state's first institute of higher education, the first library and the first Sunday School. e college relocated to Clarksville and is now the University of the Ozarks. Several buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places; Battle of Cane Hill is where the first shots of the Prairie Grove Campaign took place on Nov. 28, 1862. Finally, anyone considering a move to this pastoral patch of the Natural State would be happy to know that the schools are a source of bragging rights for the city of Lincoln.
