pIcture BooKs as We grow author: libby Walden age: 3 to 7 years This beautifully illustrated picture book takes a good look at each stage of life, and the journey our lives take as we grow from children into adulthood. This is a book that would be an excellent read for families of all ages. the digger & the Flower author: Joseph Kuefler age: Baby to 5 years This adorable picture book is centered around a construction site, where digger and his friends spend the day working away, digging, scooping, and more. When he finds something in the rubble, he sets events in motion that will change him, his friends, and the city forever. This sweet story has a good environmental message, for the plant lovers of the world. growing season author: Maryann cocca-leffler age: 4 to 8 years This adorable spring read is perfect for little ones starting school and learning about friendship. El and Jo are the smallest in their grade and are best friends, but when Jo starts growing taller and faster than El, she feels even smaller than ever. When she's left with the smallest plant to take care of over the summer, she's disappointed, but as summer progresses, things start to bloom for both El and her little aster plant. lola dutch: When I grow up author: Kenneth Wright age: 4 to 8 years If your kiddo loves Fancy Nancy or Olivia, then Lola Dutch is a perfect alternative for them! This particular story is all about Lola Dutch's grand plans for when she grows up, and boy does she have a lot of them. She could be a magnificent performer, daring inventor, brilliant botanist, and more…but how does someone choose with so many amazing options in front of them? The library invites parents and their children to participate in their Summer Reading Program (SRP), June 5 - July 31! This years theme is Color Your World! This story follows Olive, who's getting ready to start the sixth grade. It's an exciting time: new teachers, new experiences, and a field trip to the big city with her best friends! However, when she finds out school policy is preventing some students from attending the trip, she decides to act! She'll do whatever it takes to be heard by her peers and her school, even if it means running in the election against her closest friends. Can Olive make these big changes, while also keeping her friends? soul lanterns (chapter Book) author: shaw Kuzki age: 10-13 years This haunting and beautiful story is a historical fiction centered around the tragic bombing of Hiroshima and how those memories are transformed by a memorial lantern-floating ceremony. Nozomi is a young girl that lives in the city of Hiroshima and every year, she joins her family in a lantern ceremony to honor the lives lost in the bombing.
