Published by Beta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu at Purdue University Spring 2021 W hen Beta Zeta announced the $2.5 million Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future capital campaign in October, we were incredibly optimistic about Sigma Nu's future at Purdue. The past five months have only added to that excitement, as our list of donors has more than doubled and Beta Zeta's early rechartering petition was approved by Sigma Nu's board of directors on February 9. Beta Zeta is officially back! While we're thrilled to be formally recognized as a chapter again after refounding as a colony in 2017, it's critical that we have the support of our loyal alumni for Beta Zeta to be better than ever. Beta Zeta has helped so many brothers Excel with Honor and helped us become better husbands, fathers, and leaders. This is our chance to provide the same opportunities for the active and future members of Sigma Nu at Purdue. We want to thank the 140 brothers and friends of Beta Zeta leading the way in this important effort by collectively contributing more than $1.79 million to date. They have shown their appreciation for Sigma Nu through their generous gifts and set a strong foundation for our brotherhood's future. Now is the time to join in on the excitement. For Sigma Nu to set a high standard for fraternity men at Purdue and nationwide, it's imperative for our undergraduate brothers to have an environment where they can achieve academic excellence and develop top-notch leadership and social skills. Carson Shadowen (BZ 1762) joined us in a video produced by D. Scott Media that highlights how the upcoming chapter house renovation will significantly benefit our brotherhood in so many ways. Please take five minutes of your time to watch this video at sigmanubz.org and learn all the ins and outs of this exciting project. We can't wait to see the result of this project and how it helps Sigma Nu shine. As Carson mentions in the video, pledges to the campaign can be scheduled in monthly, quarterly, or annual installments over five years so that it makes the most financial sense for you and makes a long-lasting impact for Beta Zeta. We would love to recognize you on a donor plaque in the chapter house that lists all brothers who make a minimum contribution of $2,500. You can add to the long list of Sigma Nu Brothers by giving back to Beta Zeta today. Campaign donations can be made by filling out the enclosed pledge form or online at sigmanu.org/beta-zeta-campaign. Thank you for your lifelong commitment to Sigma Nu. We can't wait to see you soon to celebrate these exciting developments at Beta Zeta. Love, truth, honor, Al Wurster (BZ 1334) Campaign Co-Chairman Chuck Ludwig (BZ 1006) Campaign Co-Chairman So Much Good News at Sigma Nu Join in on the Excitement at Beta Zeta by Giving to the Capital Campaign Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future T o Carl Davis (BZ 1235), the Beta Zeta campaign is an opportunity to help get the colony off to a strong start. "Beta Zeta helped us form some pretty unique friendships that have endured for many years," he said. "I hope today's brothers can experience something equally rewarding." Carl joined Sigma Nu after visiting several fraternities on campus; while some of the others came across as impersonal or snobbish, the Sigma Nu brothers were friendly and welcoming. Carl fondly remembers the chapter house on Littleton Street, with a porch that had a fabulous view overlooking the Wabash. The brothers held dance parties on the patio, slip and slide parties on the hill (replaced by sledding in the winter), and enjoyed a brotherhood tradition of telling jokes at Friday dinner. ("Most of the time the heckling was funnier than the joke.") Carl served as recruitment chairman for a year, and with help from his brothers, brought in some great classes. Those friendships and responsibilities set him on a great path for life.
