alpha chi omega | page 10 CHAPTER ETERNAL Mary "Peggy" Hickey Ratz '40 of Springfield, Illinois, entered Chapter Eternal on February 15, 2020, at the age of 97. Gena Glaser Awerkamp '67 entered Chapter Eternal on April 2, 2020, after a 16-year battle with lung cancer. A 1982 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law, she was a partner at Schmiedeskamp, Robertson, Neu & Mitchell in Quincy, Illinois, until she retired in 2007. She is survived by her three children and her husband, Bill. Nina Marie Baumann '08, 31, entered Chapter Eternal on October 31, 2020. She was a third grade teacher at Geggie Elementary School in Eureka, Missouri. She had a natural passion for teaching children and helping others achieve their goals. She was recognized as one of Missouri's Most Accomplished Women by the Mayor of St. Louis. ALUMNAE NEWS LoVene Kraus Claypole '50 turned 90 in October 2020 and had a hip operation in July. "I've had a great and varied life." LoVene lives in Springfield, Missouri. Email: lovenlucy@hotmail.com Nancy Greef Cramer '50 is completing her sixth book since she began writing in 2008. Her last book, about the Serbian Army's famous retreat in 1915, has been translated and printed by the Serbian government to distribute to citizens. Her current book is a memoir about living through grief when her son was killed in 1975. "I hope it will serve as an inspiration to other grieving parents. 'If I can do it, then you can, too' is my motto." Nancy is 89 years young and has a fine life companion with her in Independence, Missouri. Bonnie Breidenstein Ragland '60 is writing a history of her community as well as periodic newsletters, putting her Mizzou journalism degree to good use. She is a retired attorney from Memphis and lives in Bryson City, North Carolina. She wrote a book, The Silence Within, about a child with whom she worked who had selective mutism, an extreme anxiety disorder that rendered him mute. Gail ran a support group for families and teachers with an SM child for 20 years. She lives in Oak Ridge, New Jersey. They travel a lot, including to Japan to see their son and his family. The whole family meets in Hawaii for Christmas because it is halfway for everyone! For the past seven years she has chaired a fundraiser at her bridge center called, "The Longest Day for Alzheimer's," which has raised more than $300,000. Susan Holmberg Meinders '71 is enjoying retirement and lake living in Lake Lotawana, Missouri. Her two sons, daughters-in-law and four grandsons all live in the Kansas City area, so they are frequent visitors to the lake. She lives in Westfield, Indiana, and looks forward to fun, family and friends. Lou Ann Pfeifer Wilcox '75 is serving as co-chair of Alpha Chi Omega's Membership Recruitment Task Force, a volunteer committee of alumnae and collegians charged with reviewing Alpha Chi membership recruitment policies and practices, evaluating barriers to membership and making recommendations to the National Council for any needed changes. The task force was formed as part of Alpha Chi's commitment to diversity and inclusion. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri. She was married last fall and volunteers for AXO as a collegiate experience volunteer and risk management specialist. She is also pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership in the hopes of becoming a school principal.
