Page 3 Sigma Phi Epsilon F lorida Alpha has been getting their physical activity in, to say the least. From playing a new sport together every weekday at 4 p.m. to participating in a mock combine, our brothers are always looking for something athletic to do. All brothers in the Phi Challenge participated in a Phi Combine, competing among themselves to take home the trophy of most fit. Widening the scope to the whole Chapter, we recently began a 3-versus-3 basketball tournament. It's a season format, where teams play every week and are then ranked and seeded. We can't wait for the playoffs to roll around! Furthermore, we love displaying that we take pride in having a sound body. Before recruitment, we hosted a field day where potential new members could meet brothers while throwing a football around or shooting hoops. It is evident that Florida Alpha is on its A-game regarding brotherhood sports activity. O n February 15, after brothers went through deliberations and voted on our 2021 Sweetheart, Josie Irvin, a senior biology student from Mountain View, Arkansas, was elected. She will be attending veterinary school in the fall, and she spends much of her free time painting murals in brothers' rooms, bringing her dog, Goose, to play at SigEp, and studying with brothers in the house library. In 2017, Josie saw the quality of men in SigEp and encouraged Brother Riley Knutson '21 to join, who has played a big role in member development ever since. Josie loves Florida Alpha and wears our letters proudly on campus. As a brotherhood, we learned how to capitalize on the fraternal opportunities even during these unprecedented times. We benefited from hybrid in-person and Zoom options for our weekly Chapter meetings, committee meetings, and member development events throughout the semester. And we were able to program numerous outdoor member development events with brothers and social events with sororities that followed the stated safety protocols. Fast-forward to today, the spring 2021 semester has been a tremendous success as we now have a full semester of COVID-19 protocols under our belt and understand how to operate better as a Chapter. Formal recruitment was a huge success because of the excellent work by Vice President of Recruitment Carson Boogaart '12 and his committee. We have 15 new brothers representing our spring 2021 class, which we could not be more stoked for. Moving forward, 365-Recruitment is underway. From a brotherhood aspect, I'm pleased to say both our spontaneous and planned events have gained traction this semester. Specifically, the basketball hoop out back has garnered lots of brothers' time. To wrap up, we're looking forward to the remainder of the school year and rounding out our semester with every committee and facet of our Chapter firing on all cylinders. Looking toward the summer, we are applying for the 2021 Buchanan Cup, which will be given out at the 57th Conclave in Denver, Colorado, in July. I wanted to thank all alumni and volunteers who continuously pour time and energy into our Chapter. Your time and wisdom never go unnoticed, and we would not be in the position we are today without you.
