A SLICE OF PI
Teri Jo Mauch '77 is a professor and division chief
of pediatric nephrology at UNMC and Children's
Hospital in Omaha, Neb. She's married to David
Sweeney, DVM. Her daughter, Sarah, was a Pi Phi
and is now a first-year medical student at UNMC.
Her son, Sam, is a junior at UNL and a member
of Pike. Teri Jo also has two dogs and is active in
fiber arts and bicycling. She lives in Omaha, Neb.

Katie Kenagy Horner '95 is volunteering with
Medical Reserve Corps in Douglas County to assist
with COVID-19 vaccine distribution. She lives in

Kirsten Saunders Demmel '99 welcomed her
third little boy into her family in 2019. She works
at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital as a physical

Shelby Kruse '11 recently moved to Atlanta,
Ga., after finishing residency in New York,
N.Y., to start her career as an optometrist. She
volunteers with Gamma Phi Beta as a collegiate
chapter specialist working with chapters in

Claire Moore '15 shares that she and Seanna
Block '15, Shelby Schelkopf '15, Tommy Waters
'15, and Nicole Bakenhus '15 are pursuing
postgraduate degrees in physician assistant
studies, medical school, dental school, and
speech language pathology. Claire is very proud
of her sisters. She lives in Plattsmouth, Neb.

Nicole Bakenhus '15 will graduate in May with her
master's degree in communication sciences and
disorders from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Then, she will be on her way to becoming a fully

Kennedy Ayer '16 will graduate in May from
UNMC-College of Nursing with her BSN. She
is moving to Omaha and just got a job as a
night nurse on the postpartum unit at Bergan
