THE TOMAHAWK
5 Theta Chi at ISU
T
he 2020-21 academic year has been unlike any other for Alpha
Mu. Brothers have adapted to COVID-19 restrictions on Iowa
State's campus and within the Ames community. Despite these
unique challenges, we have kept ourselves busy during
such an unconventional time.
Lip-sync practices are no longer held in the basements of
chapter houses, but rather with a hybrid format of in-person
and online practices. The event itself is being held on
campus. Our Monday night dinner speakers have met with
us in a hybrid format as well. Our guest speakers meet us in
the basement via Zoom while the members participate from
a safe distance while wearing masks. Despite the various
setbacks, we have remained resilient through these tough
times.
The daily life of an Alpha Mu member is much different
than it was 13 months ago. Brothers spend much more time online,
as you all can relate. With some or most of our classes being moved
online, the experience of being a college student has drastically changed.
Nowadays when walking throughout the house, you find your brothers
working on their computers and participating in WebEx calls for class.
Lunch and dinner meals have become a luxury in the time of the
pandemic, with few other opportunities to see brothers
each day.
Amid these changes, we still are committed to having
safe events within the current climate. With our newly
elected VPs of Brogramming, as we like to call them,
we have focused more on the brotherhood during the
pandemic. We have done our best to strengthen our
bonds, especially with the lack of social events and
interfraternity and sorority events. I am confident that
Alpha Mu will emerge from the pandemic with a new
sense of brotherhood that can be built upon for years to
come.
Fraternally,
