5 T he Eta Chapter of Sigma Chi has seen its fair share of adversity throughout the year. A common struggle among any institution, organization, or business is the impact COVID-19 has placed upon society. Social interactions have been difficult to maintain, people are worried about what the future holds, and quite frankly, life has somewhat lost its vibrancy. We are also undergoing a massive chapter house renovation, during which time our active brothers are staying at the old eta house. ese challenges have been difficult, yet we have thrived. n Remembering Michael On May 15, 2020, we lost one of the most upstanding men Eta Chapter has ever had the pleasure of knowing, Michael Aulds '21. Michael was the personification of the Jordan Standard and was a God-fearing family man with an incredible work ethic. He was elected to be our magister for this year, but tragically, our new men did not receive the pleasure of learning from this wise man. Following this tragic moment in our chapter's history, our previous consul, Silas Cosby '21, organized a philanthropic effort to sell t-shirts honoring Michael, donating the funds to St. Jude. Our chapter raised over $17,000 and sold shirts to people all over the United States. n Growing the Brotherhood We successfully initiated an exceptional 2020 class. Sixty-seven standard- bearing men were extended invitations to join our organization, and 65 were initiated into our brotherhood. Our magisters, Kolton Grimsley '21 and Hayden Parker '21, offered their talents to curate an incredibly close pledge class that is diverse and valuable to our fraternity. Many of them are already campus leaders, and our chapter is proud of their desires to become influential men on campus. n Prioritizing Health Alec Hudson '22 organized an effort to combat COVID-19 on a local level. He reached out to Oxford Medical Ministries and successfully raised funds for 1,000 care packages with vitamins that are proven to reduce the effects of COVID-19 according to the CDC. Our chapter collectively spent over 15 hours working toward this effort, and Alec brought the packages to OMM to distribute to the citizens of Oxford. We are appreciative of Alec's generosity for our chapter and community. Our chapter holds a 3.24 GPA, and our newly initiated freshman obtained a GPA of 3.32 for the fall 2020 semester of. We ranked fih among the 16 chapters at the University of Mississippi and intend to rank higher within the coming semesters.
