The Ivy 3 616 has sisters studying in every corner! Active sisters enjoying the trampoline park at Launch. Heart to Heart, Hand in Hand, we wore RED for #NationalWearRedDay to bring awareness to heart disease in women. We wear our masks around East Lansing and campus to protect all those around us and our sisters to keep our campus community safe and healthy. We can't wait to cheer on Sparty again! I feel blessed to hold the position of Chapter President, even during these unprecedented times. The Executive Council, along with our advisors, has been working hard to provide a meaningful experience to our chapter members while following Michigan State, Panhellenic, and CDC Guidelines regarding COVID-19. Over the past few months, I have noticed a need in our chapter to improve mental health. I have used chapter meetings, held over Zoom, as a time to implement necessary mental health programming. Recently, we had the pleasure of Melissa Wagasy '99 offering a virtual yoga session to our active members via Zoom. Sisters enjoyed using this time to relax before the week of online classes began. We are also having Cami Bolton, a professional counselor, come onto our virtual chapter meeting to provide our members with techniques to manage stress and anxiety. Panhellenic guidelines still allow for in-person sisterhood events, and I have taken full advantage of this opportunity to build stronger relationships among our chapter members. A few weeks ago, we rented out Launch, a local trampoline and laser tag park. The Executive Council received great responses from members, and it gave our chapter a chance to bond with the new member class in person. This month, we are looking forward to two sisterhood events where we will rent out a movie theater and do a boxing class. We are renting out Celebration Cinema to watch Mean Girls, one of the chapter's favorite movies. The boxing class is at Empower Lansing and will be done in small groups. We are committed to promoting safety during the pandemic by wearing masks and practicing social distancing at our sisterhoods. I am fortunate enough to live in the chapter house this year. Being able to see my best friends every day allows me to feel a sense of normalcy, and I think the sisters living in this year would agree. For Valentine's Day, we decorated the dining room and the chef made us steak, portabella mushrooms, and red velvet cupcakes. We dressed up for this dinner and even made Valentine's Day boxes and cards for everyone. This is just one example of how we are trying to have special events for members living in the house this year. Often, we enjoy studying together and watching The Bachelor on Monday nights. The experience of living with my member class, especially during the pandemic, has been incredibly unique. I know it will not be easy for us to leave 616 in a couple short months. Although we were unable to host a Red Dress Gala this year, we have still managed to find creative ways to donate money through social media and merchandise. Our Vice President of Marketing designed a trendy sweatshirt that we sent out to all the fraternities and our families to purchase. Half of the proceeds were given to The Alpha Phi Foundation. The chapter and I are looking forward to next year in hopes we can resume the amazing in-person traditions and experiences Alpha Phi provides.
