The team's Cup win matched its performance in last month's Bay Area Heat Wave Challenge U10 girl's event at which they placed first. Medford tournament offered a variety of events for all youth age levels playing 395 games. On five soccer venues able to accommodate the 137 teams that came from Oregon, California and as far away as Nevada to participate in this inaugural event. The Red Bluff Blast Xplosion, a new team that participated in only its second tournament, faced teams of varying levels of experience to end up tied for first place in its bracket and lost a squeaker in its final match, 2-1. The team's overall performance in the tournament earned it the right to play as runner-ups in the consola- Courtesy photo The Red Bluff Blast Xplosion team, from top left, is coach Steve Bronze, Nayeli Lara, Abbey Lair, Ryanne Ampi, Iris Farias and assistant coach Candice Carr. All Blast players had their moments during these games but it was especially sweet to see recent U8 player, 8-yearold Karlee Lywandowsky, move up and score her first major tournament goal against opponents that at times dwarfed her. Playing in her first game as a Blast, Corning's Nayeli Lara was a defensive standout with some of the most aggressive play of the games. As always, goalie Kiah Foster was there to stop shots that would have made the team's wining outcome much different. One of the exciting moments of the games was Haley Bramante's scoring one of her two weekend goals, putting the ball into the net with less than 30 seconds left to clinch a spot in the final playoff game. Honorable mention for outstanding player contri- butions go to Claire Tobin, Ryanne Ampi and Abbey Lair. In all the games the Blast team was highly competitive and even tied the eventual tournament winner in regulation.
