Box 2187, Columbus, GA 31902-2187 or visit http://texassigep.org. Texas Alpha Education Foundation Update 2 020 was an extremely varied year for the Texas Alpha Education Foundation. We began by sending 13 of our chapter members to the Carlson Leadership Academy in Dallas. We were then planning for a large-scale 90th anniversary celebration and program for April. Since just about everything related to large group gatherings was canceled due to the ongoing COVID- 19 pandemic, it really limited many of our plans. Don't worry—we will eventually have a celebration to commemorate our first 90 years once such a gathering is feasible. Left without opportunities to gather, we turned to our other main function: distributing endowed scholarship awards to deserving chapter members. The John K. Tyler Balanced Man Scholarship and the Buffkin-Felker Award are both named for exemplary chapter brothers and are given to undergraduate brothers who are nominated by the chapter for their recognition. The Tyler BMS is focused on rewarding outstanding leadership, and the Buffkin-Felker focuses on leadership, service, and brotherhood, with a preference for financial need. In late 2019, the Texas Alpha Education Foundation voted to partner with the Texas Exes Foundation as fiduciary and placed nearly $80,000 of endowed scholarship funds under their management. There were several reasons the board made this decision; including continued control by the chapter of recipients, funds will grow alongside the much larger Texas Exes fund. All future donations to those funds will be recognized both at Texas Alpha and the Texas Exes, along with recognition at the Exes Annual Scholarship Banquet for our recipients. In the coming months and years, the Texas Alpha Education Foundation will focus on increasing communication with more frequent updates and notices as well as continuing our focus on maintaining our alumni network through accurate information, local happy hours, and state- wide events. When you receive email requests to update your contact information, please take the time to do so. We can't wait to see everyone again, in person, without technical support! Recruiting High-Quality Young Men A t Texas Alpha Chapter, we take great pride in the type of young men chosen to join our organization. Since its inception in 1930, Texas Alpha has made a profound effort to target well-rounded individuals who will represent this fraternity with dignity, just as those who came before us did. Texas Alpha boasts an illustrious alumni group that is truly indispensable to the success of the fraternity, in large part due to your role in the recruitment process. This process is taken very seriously by our recruitment team and the chapter as a whole. We greatly appreciate contact information for any potential new members. Thank you for your support of Texas Alpha! HFF, Carter Boehm '23 Recruitment Chairman (254) 315-8696 csboehm1@gmail.com
