"Being in a sorority and living in a sorority house taught me a lot of life lessons," Joanna said. "One thing you learn is that we are all different with a wide range of personalities, but at the end of the day we are all sisters and are there for each other. Learning to live with people from so many different backgrounds carries over into your professional life and everyday life." MEMORIES ON MILLEDGE p. 3 PBF A s Christie Roller '58 celebrates her 60- year anniversary of graduating from the University of Georgia this spring, it's hard for her not to immediately think about the Sincere Friendships she gained from Georgia Alpha that are still going strong today. Christie remembers the thrill of Pi Beta Phi winning Sorority Sing like it was yesterday, as well as many other moments with her sisters during chapter meetings, meals, recruitment and sitting on the front steps at 886 South Milledge. One other vivid memory Christie has from her Georgia Alpha collegiate experience was writing a letter to alumnae about how the chapter house desperately needed to be spruced up. Several Georgia Alpha alumnae answered Christie's call and got to work on the projects. Some 60 years later, Christie and her daughter, Joanna Roller '84, have the gratification of also giving back to Georgia Alpha by contributing to A New Vision Built on Great Tradition campaign. "e Georgia Alpha capital campaign brings back great memories. A few weeks [after I sent that letter], a group of Atlanta alumnae arrived unannounced mid-morning to see what could be done," Christie said of the Georgia Alpha alumnae who came before her. "ey were go- getters to say the least and ready for a project! e following fall, we returned to a much- improved Pi Beta Phi house. Several years later, the first front wing was added to the original house." Joanna shares her mother's sentiments about giving back to something she enjoyed and cared about so that others can enjoy it as well. Her favorite memories with her Georgia Alpha sisters include football games, Homecoming, Founders' Day and just hanging out with friends. Joanna has built upon her Sincere Friendships over the years by traveling the world with her sisters and seeing them over Zoom during the pandemic. The Gratification of Giving Back to Georgia Alpha Christie Roller and Joanna Roller Share Pi Phi Pride with eir Gift to the Capital Campaign e Rollers can't wait to see how Georgia Alpha's collegians and future sisters benefit from the capital campaign and the collective Pi Beta Phi experience. Christie is thankful that her husband, John, has also been passionate about paying it forward and helping her set a positive example for Joanna and their other children, John III and Anne. Joanna and Christie are excited to give to such a worthy cause along with other Pi Phi sisters who have already given and those who are planning on giving in the future. "Since my husband was a Georgia Tech co-op student, he knew how important financial assistance was for some students during their college years," Christie said. "During the last several years, after a successful career in highway construction and banking, he began working diligently to give back to his alma mater. Pi Phi was such a wonderful experience for me, and I am most grateful for the opportunity to help with the Georgia Alpha capital campaign."
