BY GEORGE DICKIE What speaks to you about farmhouses? Just the way of life, the simplicity, the solitude, just being able to be in the dirt and grow vegetables and get eggs from our chickens and it's just so peaceful. You know, I grew up in the city and left when I was 20 because I just always hated city life. How did you get involved in this kind of work with a music career? Well when I was a kid, we grew up in a borough of Boston called Dorchester, which is like this old, historic town and my dad was a contractor. So after school, I'd go work for him. I think growing up in a historic neighborhood, I was always drawn to these old houses. And then just working with my dad and seeing what he could do with transforming these houses – I think I was probably 14 or 15 when I started working for him and it's just been a love ever since then. So you learned to do a little bit of everything? Everything but plumbing and electrical. That's one area I will not touch. Have homeowner clients ever recognized you from New Kids on the Block? A few. I've had a few flip houses that I've done that when I go to the closing and the homeowners show up, they're like, "Oh, my goodness!" But actually, (an owner of) one of the houses on the show was a fan of New Kids on the Block and she was so cool, like didn't even let on until we were like two months into the project. And I was down in her basement and I'm looking around and I found like memorabilia from one of our cruises. And I looked at her and I was like, "Hmmm." And that's when she fessed up. So that was pretty cool.
