SIGMA PHI EPSILON p. 3 A labama Beta Chapter brothers are now in their third year in the new Chapter House on University Blvd. Despite the complications of COVID-19 in spring 2020, brothers adapted well academically, finishing the academic year with the second best GPA on campus. Hosting various philanthropy events throughout the year, members of the Chapter have been very involved in their community and continue to exemplify success on and off campus. Chapter executive elections were held in person on November 15, and the transition of power occurred the following week. Retaining his position as president, Jack Callahan '22 was elected to his second term. Joining Callahan will be Vice President of Programming Daniel Tolan '23, Vice President of Recruitment David Cranz '23, Vice President of Finance Jack Adams '22, Vice President of Member Development Ash Vaughn '23, Vice President of Operations Joey Galvan '23, Vice President of Communications Jack Strubel '23, and Chaplain Reid Peterson '22. Reflecting on this year's elections, Jack Callahan has high hopes for the next two semesters. "There are a lot of reasons to be excited about this upcoming year and executive board," Jack said. "We have a combination of new guys and ideas that complements three members with previous experience. I'm really excited to work together and see what good comes from our new group." Before the onset of COVID-19, Alabama Beta was able to host the annual Blackjack Ball in spring 2020. The philanthropy event benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama, an organization that provides mentoring services to at-risk children. This event was held at the Tuscaloosa River Market, where each brother brought a date to play poker and blackjack in formal attire. Philanthropy Chairman Cade Pfeifer '22 commented on the success of the event: "Just like we do every year, Blackjack Ball brought in thousands of dollars for charity and allowed us to have a fun brotherhood event at the same time," Cade said. Additional philanthropy events that members participated in were the Krispy Kreme Run in the spring and the Trunk of Treat event with the miracle league of Tuscaloosa. Both events benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Alabama. As the brothers continue striving to achieve greatness in academics, service, and brotherhood, we ultimately want to thank our alumni for your support. With our Chapter members leading the way at the University of Alabama and providing exemplary examples of Sigma Phi Epsilon men, we want to extend an invitation to visit our new Chapter House and meet the brothers of Alabama Beta once COVID-19 allows.
