SPRING 2021 ALABAMA BETA s THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA SIGMA PHI EPSILON Inside Building a Better Brotherhood ~ p. 2 Welcome, New Members ~ p. 2 Alumni News ~ p. 4 Reconnecting with Alabama Beta Alumni Volunteer Corporation Planning Upcoming Alumni Events G reetings from Tuscaloosa! With all the whirlwinds we have dealt with this past year, I feel like we have become more disconnected than ever. The one thing we all have in common is our shared love for Alabama Beta Chapter and the relationships we have built with our brothers during our time as SigEps. The undergraduate Chapter and the Alumni Volunteer Corporation are looking for ways to reconnect the brotherhood and better communicate with our alumni. With that in mind, expect the undergraduates to contact you over the next 30 days. The purpose of this is to ensure we have your updated contact information, your preferred manner of communication, ideas for future alumni events, and what information you would like access to. The AVC has several goals we would like to accomplish this year. With the 2021 football season approaching, we will host tailgates with food and a cash bar for as many home games as possible. In an effort to keep our alumni brothers connected to the Chapter, we will host at least one dinner or get together for alumni each semester moving forward. Additionally, as we look to the future, the Chapter is planning to hold a formal function such as a Golden Heart Ball, Blackjack Ball, or Founders Day Celebration. Be on the lookout for more information regarding Alabama Beta Chapter's centennial, as we are in the planning stages for the 2027 celebration. Please let us know if you have any ideas, or if you would like to help us in the development and planning of our events calendar. For the brothers of the Alabama Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon, challenges were presented at the start of the academic year. Gathering for Chapter on Sunday evenings, eating meals together in the dining hall, and hosting tailgates for parents and alumni on game days are some of the staples that the Alabama Beta provides. However, due to University of Alabama capacity limitations, the brothers were unable to fulfill these great moments in the fall. Although the brothers couldn't enjoy these moments, they made tremendous efforts and adjustments to replicate them. Using Zoom communications to host virtual Chapter meetings allowed the brothers to discuss further plans for the Chapter. With the help of our wonderful and hardworking kitchen staff, the brothers were able to enjoy the delicious meals they provided for us with a new system of catering and grab-and-go dining. Most importantly, the brothers provided support for one another during this challenging time and implemented virtue, diligence and brotherly love in their lives.
