Before you put your house on the market, peruse this checklist of quick (and fairly inexpensive) things you can do in preparation. Some of these tips are surprisingly easy, while others might require a bit more elbow grease. But it will all be worth it when the offers start rolling in. • Declutter the home. If your home is cluttered, the buyer may question the amount of storage. Instead, clear out the clutter and only half-fill the closets. • Clean draperies. Wash those blinds and get rid of any accumulated dust or spider webs. • Refinish your hardwoods. If you don't have the time or money to refinish them, give them a good polish. • Mow the lawn. It should go without saying, but first impressions are sometimes the only chance you get. Put flowers in planters near the front door. • Clean windows and mirrors. Sparkle sells. Cleaning and decluttering should be the first steps in preparing your home for sale. • Paint the front door. It sets the stage for what's inside. More on the hot housing market on page 8.
