While not an emergency โ there is no need for residents to begin boiling tap water โ the public works department will likely begin a process of chlorination to disinfect the city's water system. The City Council is scheduled to hear an informational presentation on the issue and potential remedies when it meets 7 p.m. Tuesday at 555 Washington St. The presentation is intended to provide information and invite comments and discussion. Red Bluff conducts water tests weekly at four rotating locations within the city. The city's water supply comes from the Tuscan and See WATER, page 7A Daily News photos by Julie Zeeb A fire in the East Sand Slough in Red Bluff sent flames shooting into the air Monday afternoon, prompting the closure of Antelope Boulevard at Sale Lane and several air drops by airplane and helicopter. While several structures were destroyed or damaged in the Sale fire and another about a half-mile south, there were no serious injuries reported. By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer Smoke billowed out of both sides of Antelope Boulevard's East Sand slough bridge Monday afternoon, burning several acres between Interstate 5 and Sale Lane. The fire, which burned at least 50 acres by 4 p.m., according to CalFire Public Information Officer Kevin Colburn, was one of two to burn Monday afternoon just east of the Sacramento River in Red Bluff with several structures destroyed. Initially reported at five acres, the Sale Lane fire burned 110 acres and four multifamily dwellings were damaged, Colburn said. There were about 200 personnel on scene. The first fire was a fire at Peachtree Lane near Gilmore Ranch Road reported just before 2 p.m. Monday. As of 3 p.m. it had destroyed two mobile homes and one storage building, with another mobile home threatened. It was contained about 5:15 p.m. William Carlton was at work, but his wife, Denise, and two grandchildren, Alexis, 6, and Aiden, 4, were home at the time. "God it went up so fast," Carlton said. All residents and two dogs were able to get out. Carlton said his cat was still missing. The Sale Lane fire sparked around 2:45 p.m., according to scanner reports, in the area of 111 Sale Lane near Antelope Man carjacked, robbed on Antelope Two Red Bluff men were arrested Sunday evening after they reportedly robbed a 57-year-old man on Antelope Boulevard The victim told police officers two men forced themselves into his vehicle while he was parked at 15 Antelope Blvd., according to a Red Bluff Police Department press release. The men forced him to drive to a vacant parking lot, where they stole his cell phone, money and vehicle keys by force. The victim was not injured during the ordeal. The suspects, Jonathan Thomas Emerson, 28 and Johnathon Dean Hogue, 7 5 8 5 5 1 6 9 0 0 1 9 22 were located in the area and both arrested. Both suspects had previous warrants for their arrests. Emerson was charged with felony second degree robbery, kidnapping, conspiracy and obstruction. He had outstanding charges of felony possession of concentrated cannabis, two misdemeanor failure to appear charges and driving without a license. Hogue was charged with felony second degree robbery, possession of a narcotic, conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor possession of a smoking device. See BLAZE, page 7A Husband shot while teaching wife A 35-year-old Rancho Tehama man reportedly shot himself Sunday while teaching his wife how to shoot. The accident took place at Pistol Point, a remote area off of Lariat Loop in the Rancho Tehama area of Corning. Tehama County Sheriff's deputies responded shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for a report of a man being treated for a gunshot wound, according to a department press release. Leonel Barajas told deputies he was teaching his wife to shoot. He was holding a small pistol down at his side when walking and believed he may have stumbled, causing himself to pull the trigger.
