A s we endure a time of uncertainty, it's important now more than ever to come together as brothers to ensure Sigma Phi Epsilon's future at Purdue. I encourage you to reach out to a brother today and support each other during these unusual times. It will do more good than you realize and will keep our Sigma Phi Epsilon bonds strong. e SigEp values that helped us transform from young men into today's leaders will continue to provide a solid foundation for Indiana Alpha Chapter, and we owe it to future generations to secure that legacy. Ask yourself: Where would I be without Sigma Phi Epsilon? Proud to Be a SigEp While we know Sigma Phi Epsilon has always been a strong fraternity at Purdue, Indiana Alpha would not be the chapter it is today without the steadfast support of our alumni. We're all proud to be members of SigEp, which helped us successfully navigate the challenges of college, provided leadership opportunities, and afforded us lifelong friends, some of whom have become business partners and associates. rough the seasons of our lives, we always have SigEp. It's evident Indiana Alpha has been a successful chapter for many generations, leading other groups on the Purdue campus. Because of the camaraderie, leadership development, and reinforcement of positive values, brothers have a strong affinity for Sigma Phi Epsilon. Alumni Support Key to Success From the launch of this campaign in February 2020, we've had incredible growth in support and excitement for this endeavor to better our brotherhood. Despite the challenges of the last year, we've grown from 34 to 126 donors, and since our November mailing, an impressive $90,000 has been raised from 34 new donors. To date, we have raised more than $1.4 million, and $300,000 has been raised since this campaign was publicly announced. While we are thrilled with the initial enthusiasm and support, we realize that's still less than 10% of our overall active brotherhood. e average participation rate of most successful Greek capital campaigns is between 20% and 25% of active alumni. Imagine what we can achieve if we can double the number of brothers who support this essential and historic campaign for Indiana Alpha Chapter. The Value of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Brotherhood and a Future Worth Supporting COMMITTED TO RECONNECTING Nick Harris '79 Shares Inspiration to Support Capital Campaign A er losing touch with all but two SigEp brothers over the years since graduating from Purdue, Nick Harris '79 replanted his Indiana Alpha roots last year. Much like e Campaign for Indiana Alpha—A New Beginning is the next step in rebuilding the brotherhood, Nick has started a new chapter with his Indiana Alpha brothers and has recommitted his support of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Purdue. "I went a 40-year stretch with really no communication with anyone except for Joe Klen '81 and Jim Keefe '79," Nick stated. "Once I reconnected with Jim Mosch '80, he looped me into a SigEp alumni email group; I reconnected with several guys whom I hadn't seen or heard from since graduating." Nick Harris '79 with his wife, Ellen, and their children, Matthew and Katherine. Reading about Brother Mosch's involvement and commitment to Indiana Alpha ultimately inspired Nick to do his part and contribute to the campaign. "It's a personal decision, but for me it's important to support the restart of the chapter," he shared. "One of the significant attractions and recruiting tools of Indiana Alpha's restart will be the updated fraternity house." Hailing from rural eastern Indiana, Nick didn't have any knowledge of the Greek world when he came to Purdue. He lived in Cary Quadrangle with Klen and Keefe, who by happenstance also decided to learn more about the Greek system. Together, they attended an open house for a fraternity directly across the street from their dorm. "It was sort of serendipitous that SigEp was literally right across the street. Joining SigEp exposed me to all different kinds of guys (Continued on back) Construction on the Horizon anks to the generosity from many Indiana Alpha brothers, we have started this campaign strong. However, as we gear up for the next phase of this campaign—the construction phase—we need all hands on deck in order to keep this project on pace. If you've yet to take a leap and contribute to this historic endeavor, please do so today to ensure Sigma Phi Epsilon stays a premier fraternity at Purdue University for generations to come. The Future of Indiana Alpha Our departure from campus in 2016 was a shock to us all. However, all successful men have known failure, and it's about how you recover and rebuild. Since that time so many positive things have happened. Our AVC Board has added new members to address the challenges before us. e University allowed us to return in spring 2019, based on our commitment to the Balanced Man Program. We launched initiatives focused on recolonization and the 690 Waldron renovation, e Campaign for Indiana Alpha – A New Beginning. More that anything our goal was rebuild Indiana Alpha for the next 100 years, not just in restoring 690 Waldron, but through the men we recruit, and our philosophy for the future. Our brother numbers continue to grow, despite the challenges of Covid. e Larson brothers (Tim '77 and Terry '80) have signed on as our general contractors, confirming our budget, and solidifying our plans. Fundraising is moving toward $1.5 million and we will achieve our goal with further brother participation. e future of Indiana Alpha is in our grasp.
