Beta Nu BulletiN 2 Many sisters are looking forward to the 125 th Anniversary of Kappa Kappa Gamma at Ohio State. Before we move forward, alumnae look back on the many reasons why they cherish Beta Nu. alumNae Keep SiSterly BoNDS iNtaCt Beta Nu enriches the life of JJ Fraser Wales '67 What is your favorite active memory? My favorite memories come from living in the house. All of the different women under one roof was not only a fun experience, but also educational. Such good friendships developed! Sitting in the Kappa block at football games is also a great memory. What makes Kappa so special to you? I cherish the friendships of excellent role models who were fun to be with and all-around great women. I am thankful to be able to be a part of something bigger than me and something that has been a good influence for women. Kappa continues to enrich my life. How do you stay involved with Kappa or Ohio State? I've been so fortunate to have volunteered for Kappa ever since graduation. Traveling around the country and Canada has allowed me to meet Kappas from everywhere. It's the people who keep you connected. Moving beyond Kappa into the Panhellenic world permitted me to reconnect with Ohio State and the Panhellenic women. The energy of the undergraduate women and outstanding Greek Life staff create a stimulating environment, so why wouldn't someone stay connected? It's exciting. What about the 125 th Anniversary gets you most excited? In a word: reconnecting. Seeing many friends and celebrating the outstanding history of this chapter. I always had, and will continue to have, great pride in being a Beta Nu! libby Banburry Germain '77 Shares Kappa experience with her Daughter What is your favorite memory? I loved watching soap operas, especially General Hospital, with the ladies in the TV room and loved knowing there would always be someone to watch with me. I also loved Buckeye football game days and the marching band. What makes Kappa so special to you today? The relationships that I made in college and still have today are what make Kappa important to me. Just last week, I went out to dinner with six other ladies from Kappa. The most exciting thing has been how much my relationship with my daughter, Molly '11, has grown since she joined Kappa at Ohio State. It has been wonderful to connect with her as a Kappa. How do you stay involved with the chapter? Since Molly started at Ohio State, I've been invited to participate on a few committees within student life and specifically, the opportunity to play a role in the new Greek housing effort. There's so much happening at Ohio State, how could I not be involved? Tell us about the reunion last fall! Last fall, we had a reunion that involved seven classes and it was an unbelievable experience. It was so great to reconnect with schoolmates—it seemed like we'd never been apart! People came from all over the country and were astonished at how much the campus has changed for the better. We ended up at the house, singing songs, and sharing memories with the active members. It was teary and emotional. We've all vowed to stay in touch. What about the 125 th Anniversary Celebration gets you most excited? The anniversary will be a wonderful opportunity for all of Beta Nu to get back together once again. I hope we can sing! Why is Kappa so special to you? It gave me the privilege to meet, at such a young age, the most wonderful, talented, intellectual, kind and devoted women that I have had the honor of knowing and interacting with for the past 50 years. How do you stay involved with Kappa? I love that I am always meeting new Kappas everywhere I go. We all truly share the same bond of sisterhood and friendship. I have owls all over my house. I wear blue and blue sometimes without even knowing it. I'm so lucky to know all these Kappas all over the city and country – they're in everything I do! What makes your pledge class reunions so great? We've been getting together since our 10 th reunion. Mary Prendergast Schmidt '63, Kathryn "Kaye" Felty Steele '63, and Barbara Boles Wertz '63 coordinated our trips together early on and pushed the fact that we needed to get together at least every five years. Now, we meet whenever the spirit moves us, and we go all over the country. What I love is that the minute I'm with them, it's like we just left off. The laughter and camaraderie keeps me going back year after year. Even more amazing is that everyone has gone on to become incredible women. In our class, we have a Ph.D., an acupuncturist, a librarian, I could go on! Eighteen out of our class of 23 women will be in Charleston this fall for our annual reunion. It's always a great turnout. What about the 125 th Anniversary gets you most excited? I'm thankful for the fact that I have a chance to celebrate what's been so stable and strong for 125 years. The women are who make it. Who could have ever thought that it would be going on this long and the sisterhood would be this strong even 125 years later? I'm just so proud to be a part of it.
