W e are excited to share with you the first semi-annual Beta Nu Bulletin! You can look forward to reading about updates from the chapter, projects involving our beloved Dreamhouse, and how our alumnae make us great! Greek Life Grows on Campus Ohio State's Greek Community has seen major growth over the past few years, opening our hearts and doors to more potential new members than ever before. Beta Nu has grown so much that we are housing 53 women in the Dreamhouse next year–that's a 10 member increase from the number we have historically housed! It is wonderful to see so many women joining the chapter who want to enrich their Kappa experience by living together in the facility. Ohio State Introduces the STEP We expect our numbers to continue to increase as Ohio State institutes one of its new initiatives that the Ohio State Board of Trustees approved last summer called the Second-Year Transformational Experience Program (or STEP). This program is aimed at developing Ohio State students' learning experience outside of the classroom, a part of the four-year college experience that we all know is perhaps even more impactful in our post-graduate years than our classroom studies. A main component of the STEP will be a mandated, on-campus second-year living requirement. Citing numerous studies about student retention, beginning in 2016, all second-years will be required to live in a university residence hall, with living in approved Greek chapter facilities being the only exception to fulfilling this requirement. Preparing Beta Nu to participate in this program is an awesome opportunity to enhance the "home away from home" environment we provide for our actives. Building Association Plans for the Future We are working diligently to plan for an expected influx of members and adapt our current spaces to cater to today's college student. Beta Nu is leading the community in this effort by being one of the first chapters planning to upgrade our facility to not only house an increased number of women, but also compete with the brand new residence halls being built to accommodate this new program. We are thrilled to take this opportunity to engage with our alumnae on a deeper level than ever before and look forward to keeping you posted on the project along the way. Please be on the lookout for invitations to events, including our Beta Nu 125 th Anniversary Celebration on the evening of Friday, October 25, 2013–the night prior to the Penn State vs. Ohio State football game. It is such an honor to be a part of an organization and a chapter with such a wonderful history. Thank you for always keeping Kappa in your heart and your undying support of "life in the Dreamhouse."
