ALPHABET SOUP – WINTER 2021 CHAPTER ETERNAL___________________ Thomas J. Stewart III ['46] (A653), 89, of Maplewood, NJ, entered Chapter Eternal on November 14, 2013. Thomas served as an ensign in the Civil Engineer Corps in the US Navy during WWII. He was the owner and operator of T.J. Stewart Company in Maplewood. Robert E. Doyle '49 (A654), age 95, of Duxbury, MA, entered Chapter Eternal on September 25, 2019. Bob served in the 75 th Infantry during WWII, including fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and receiving the Purple Heart. Following the war, he graduated from RPI with a BS in MechE. An entrepreneur and professional engineer, he owned several businesses including Doyle and Co. He is survived by his wife Eloise, four children, and 11 grandchildren. Richard J. O'Brien '49 (A666), of Rochester, NY, entered Chapter Eternal on November 1, 2014. Richard was a WWII Navy veteran and had retired from the Eastman Kodak Company. Edward Widmayer, Jr. '46 (A668) of Bellevue, WA, entered Chapter Eternal on January 27, 2015. While at RPI, Ed was a member of the lacrosse team which played an exhibition match against the All England team in the 1948 Olympics in London. Graduating with a BS and an MS in AeroE, he went on to work at NACA in VA, Martin Co. in MD and Boeing in PA and WA. Sailing, bridge, and golf were his favorite activities. J. Harold Daniels ['48] (A689) of East Amherst, NY, entered Chapter Eternal on February 2, 2015. Richard A. Seymour '48 (A693), 75, of Irondequoit, NY, entered Chapter Eternal on February 17, 2002. Richard was retired from Eastman Kodak Company as a professional engineer after 40 years with the firm. Dr. Robert P. Leather '48 (A700), age 92, of Chatham, NY, entered Chapter Eternal on February 4, 2020. After graduating with a BS in MechE from Rensselaer, Bob attended Albany Medical College and earned his MD in 1954. He went on to work at Albany Medical Center as a general and vascular surgeon for over 40 years, and helped develop the trauma unit at AMC. Serving as Head of Vascular Surgery and Head of Surgery, Bob was well known for helping to create certain time-tested procedures and operations dealing with arterial reconstruction. He developed the "In-Situ" method of limb revascularization and worked on notable advances in aorta and carotid surgical techniques. Retiring in 1999 from AMC, Bob enjoyed skiing, sailing, traveling, sports cars and airplanes. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, four children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Robert C. Dodd ['46] (A717), age 93, of Palatine, IL, entered Chapter Eternal on April 30, 2018. Raymond L. Plassmann ['49] (A720) of Moosup, CT, entered Chapter Eternal on November 15, 2019. Raymond served in WWII in the Army Air Corps as a navigator on a B- 17 bomber, flying 30 missions over Germany. For his service, he received a Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. After a long career in education, he retired, enjoying rides on his BMW motorcycle. He is survived by two children, four grandchildren, and six great- grandchildren. Bruce A. Goodale '50 (A721), age 93, of Pittsburgh, PA, entered Chapter Eternal on December 8, 2019. Bruce served in the Army Air Force as an Aviation Cadet before entering Rensselaer on the G.I. Bill, earning a BS in AeroE. He had a 37-year career at Kaman Aircraft as a project engineer, program manager, and worldwide marketing manager. Bruce is survived by his wife Jane, four children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Richard H. Lassen '50 (A723) of Costa Mesa, CA, entered Chapter Eternal on March 16, 2013. John W. Murphy Jr. '50 (A741), age 95, of Vero Beach, FL, entered Chapter Eternal on March 30, 2019. After graduating with an EE degree, John had a 37-year career at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, holding various engineering, operating and management positions and also served on multiple state and national electric power industry committees, chairing several, during this time. A veteran of WWII as a combat crew member of a B-24 bomber and of the Korean Conflict, he retired from the US Army as a major after 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy, four children, and five grandchildren. Frank K. Little '50 (A745), age 90, of Dublin, OH, entered Chapter Eternal on September 7, 2018. Frank earned a BS in AeroE while at Rensselaer and an MS in AeroE from the University of Michigan. A US Navy veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict. Frank spent his working years at North American Rockwell in Columbus, OH, and Pratt & Whitney Aerospace in West Palm Beach, FL. He is survived by three children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Leigh S. Woodward '51 (A752), 85, of Framingham, MA, entered Chapter Eternal on February 25, 2011. After graduating with a degree in architecture from Rensselaer, Leigh worked for David J. Abrahams, Cabot, Cabot, and Forbes, M.I.T., Charles T. Main, Boston, L.H. Hewitt, Framingham and Newport Construction Corp, Quincy. He also was involved in several branches of Masonry and served in the US Army Air Corps and the Army Reserve. Kenneth S. Reed '52 (A774), 80, of West Melbourne, FL, entered Chapter Eternal on November 30, 2010. Lawrence J. Wackerman '52 (A782), 88, of Shelton, CT, entered Chapter Eternal on August 31, 2018. After graduating from Rensselaer, Lawrence earned an MBA from Hofstra University and served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He went on to a career in advertising and public relations. He is survived by his wife Dianne, two daughters, and four grandchildren.
