page 4 W hat a semester we have had here at Delta Xi last fall! We started the semester off strong with a great recruitment. Although recruitment was different than previous years, it was a success with our online, virtual efforts! The recruitment team worked hard throughout the summer to get social media, videos, and programming prepared for when our members returned to 901 Richmond Avenue in August. Our vice presidents of membership experience, Gracie Schulte '17 and Kate Wilson '18, worked together to welcome our new pledge class of 66 members home to Delta Xi. A RECRUITMENT TO REMEMBER Navigating the changes at the beginning of the semester was difficult. Events were limited, social activities with our members were unable to happen, and overall morale with COVID-19 was down. However, we were able to work together to push through this difficult time. Our new member educator, Lindsay Durdle '17, worked hard to get our new pledge class acclimated. The new members met their pledge families on October 20, during big/little reveal, and they were initiated he following day. We were able to welcome some alumni members back to the chapter house to initiate their daughters, granddaughters, and sisters. It was an incredibly special night for the new members, as they learned what it means to be a member of Delta Delta Delta and became initiated collegiate members of our sisterhood. PHILANTHROPIC ENDEAVORS AMIDST UNCERTAIN TIMES We recently began our fundraising efforts for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital this year. Because of COVID-19, however, we have had to rethink how to do our events in our chapter since we must continue to be socially distanced and safe, following the University, county, and CDC guidelines. Because of this, one of our main fundraising events, Sincerely Yours, is going to be a totally virtual event. Members are starting to gather addresses, emails, and phone numbers of family members and friends to handwrite letters asking for donations to St. Jude. Clare Marie Kuebler '18, director of philanthropy events, has been working closely with our St. Jude representatives to get our members involved and spread the word in the community that our fundraising efforts are still in full swing even with the pandemic! Our members have also been in the giving spirit since the holidays and are brainstorming ways to give back to the community through other events such as toy drives, holiday volunteering, and clothing drives. NATIONAL ACCOLADE NOMINATION In October, our executive board chose me to be our Sarah Ida Shaw Award nominee. I was honored for this opportunity to represent our chapter nationally. I am humbled that the chapter thought of me in this prestigious light considering this nomination means so much to not only me, but to Tri Deltas across the nation. The Sarah Ida Shaw Award is presented to one Tri Delta in the nation and is normally announced at the next Collegiate Leadership Conference at the start of the spring semester. I cannot wait to see how it unfolds! GRATEFUL FOR TRI DELTA As we wrapped up 2020 and looked ahead to 2021, we were honored to have been able to welcome a new pledge class of Tri Delta women into our chapter. We have been so excited to start slating the next executive board that will lead Delta Xi Chapter into the future. We hope to open our Chapter House back up to everyone soon, but for the time being, we are just grateful to be together and safe at 901 Richmond Avenue. Delta Love, Lauren Curcio '17 Chapter President
