12 WHAT'S UP! JANUARY 31-FEBRUARY 6, 2021 LISTEN HERE! Hip-Hop Artist Architect Of Solo Venture "Paranoia" Maggie Lindemann swixxzaudio & Caroline Records Rock/alt/pop songstress Maggie Lindemann is coming in to her own as an artist with a dark, enig- matic and thrilling alt/rock sound on her debut EP, "Paranoia," out Jan. 22. Having accumulated over a billion streams since she began her career in 2015, the 22-year-old is finally ready to present her highly antic- ipated first official body of work to the world. In the last weeks of 2020, Alternative Press named "Paranoia" one of their 50 Most Anticipated Albums of 2021 and Billboard named the EP's third single "Scissorhands" one of its Top 25 Rock Songs of 2020. Lindemann has quietly emerged as one of pop's most subversive forces. At only 22 years of age, she has truly uncovered her voice as a songwriter and injected a fierce dose of honesty regarding anxieties, obsessions and insecurities into her new material. Her most recently released song, "Loner," was described by Billboard as one that "glorifies the idea of being on your own, while simultaneously wishing that she wasn't hard-wired for life by yourself." "Future Proof" Erick the Architect Erick the Architect, founding member/primary producer of Flatbush Zombies, released his official debut project as a solo artist, "Future Proof," on Jan. 22. Inspired by the catastrophic events of 2020, "Future Proof" was written entirely by Erick and produced by Linden Jay of FARR. Lyrically, Erick is at his peak, each track delivering an earful of gems that are introspec- tive and universal. "Future Proof" is more than just a catchy title; it's a roadmap to better handle the inevitable challenges that lie ahead. Some of Erick's ideas — mental and emotional self-improvement, owning creative copy- right of your material, eating properly and dieting, learning a new skill and environmental consciousness — are steps that anyone can follow that will result in a more secure future. These ideas will be explored in depth on Feb. 22, at the day-long virtual Future Proof Fest — a live streamed program about music, creativ- ity and positivity, featuring some of the music and creative industries' most interesting names to a live audience on Twitch. "The Los Sundowns" The Los Sundowns Lechehouse Music "The Los Sundowns" is a breezy record of psyche- delic soul conceptualized by Beto Martinez (Gram- my-winning guitarist/producer, Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Money Chicha) and Daniel Villarreal (drum- mer and DJ, Dos Santos). Written, recorded and produced by Martinez at his studio, Lechehouse Music, and featuring a host of friends across the six tracks, the reverb-laden platter conjures the sound of Latin American balladeers and crooners of the '60s, updating the vibe and transport- ing the listener to a beachside hang from sunup to sundown. The self-titled debut EP is out on vinyl and digitally on Feb. 12th. "With this release, I hope to reveal another side, to showcase my myriad influences and also present a more concise depiction of my songwriting as direct-from-the-source, unadulterated and without the inevitable filter of the larger band dynamic, or the considerations of the live environment," Martinez reveals. "Thanatos Rising" Sorizon Southern California progressive-leaning metal quintet Sorizon will release their third full length album, "Thanatos Rising," on Feb. 26. Though the group's music has a definite progressive metal bent, Sorizon aims to break down subgenres to bring metal- heads together. The quintet's previous releases have garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews, including proclamations that they "rival the better work of Symphony X" and "the guitarists complement each other like not many bands have done; Maiden and Priest come to mind." The album features powerful artwork painted by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Sodom, Havok), and is scheduled for released digitally and on limited edition blood red and black galaxy vinyl. "'Thanatos Rising' is a journey through the nightmarish battles of life and death, ending with worth and wisdom," says guitarist Dr. Danny Mann. The themes of the new release resonate with the state of the world: death, fear of the unknown and the hope of renewal. "Thanatos Rising" brings Sorizon's peak of songwriting and critically acclaimed produc- tion. With not enough live music to fill a weekly listing, this spot will continue to be filled by news and reviews of new albums, both local and national.
