SEE YOU ALL AGAIN FOR OUR DANCES NOVEMBER 2021. By Jackie Deal It's a new club and you're invited to join. No, it's not about New Year's Resolutions so don't run away. Has anyone ever asked you, "Are you doing XYZ as much as you should?" and, feeling guilty, you answered, "Not as much as I should." Well then, this club is for you. "Are you exercising as much as you should?" "Nah, not as much as I should." "Are you practicing as much as you should? Read- ing, writing, arithmetic, art, mu- sic?" "No, not as much as I should. "XYZ?" "Not as much as I should." If you're a charter member of the club you probably even ask yourself that question! Somewhere, back in my younger years, I vaguely remember reading: there are no shoulds. Nice thought, but is it true? Don't we crucify ourselves repeatedly on the cross of Shoulds? Whether we compare ourselves to others or to our former selves? It's the same result: we just don't add up. Think about that long enough and you start getting depressed, right? So, grab yourselves by your boot straps (I don't care if you have bed- room slippers on) and …and, what? Um, let's see. Turn on some lights. It's winter and everything is natu- rally darker and thus so are you. Lights! Music! Put on some bright, happy music. Smile! Don't feel like it? Smile anyway. There's a theory called "as if"; if you act "as if" you're happy: you will be. No guarantee, but you're more likely to feel better if you act better. (How could you feel any worse?) Call a friend. Seek out a friend. But only a positive one that will make you feel better. And if you work to make the friend feel better then two of you will feel bet- ter. Simple arithmetic. We kinda strayed from the origi- nal premise: a club for shoulda- failures. Maybe if the depression has lifted a little you might feel like doing some of those things "you shoulda". But don't forget, nobody, including you, has the right to tell you: "you shoulda done more or better." And you don't have to in- ternalize those things. Now have I talked you out of join- ing the new club? Maybe we should change the name from "Not as much as I should" to …. to what? Help me out: give me a name for our new club. You could even be an offi cer if you wish! Come and join the Bouse Hills Muzzle Loaders during our annual black powder Rendezvous February 13-16. The event takes place at the La Paz County Range on Highway 72 just outside of Bouse, between mile markers 29 and 30. A wide variety of competitions take place from Thurs- day morning through Sunday noon. Vendors are set up selling a variety of old fashioned items of that era. A great food vendor will be on site. Par- ticipants are dressed in period cloth- ing from the 1820's through 1840's that depict the era when the Southwest was being settled. Visitors can shoot a black powder rifl e, observe compe- titions in progress, shop and much more. Camping on site available at $5.00 per night. Additional activities each night. For more information, call Phil or Libby at 623-826-5621. Rendezvous planned February 13-16 DEADLINE : WED.
