For Alumni and Friends of the Illinois Alpha Chapter Fall 2020 University of Illinois | Sigma Phi Epsilon information | illinois.sigep.org I t goes without saying that 2020 has been full of challenges. It is my hope that our values of virtue, diligence, and brotherly love have helped you push through this difficult year. As SigEp continues to navigate these challenging times, it's critical that we think strategically about the future of Illinois Alpha and the men we will impact. We can do this by giving to SigEp's many life-changing leadership programs. From Ruck Leadership Institute to Carlson Leadership Academy, as well as Grand Chapter Conclave and Life After College, SigEp is committed to being a valued partner in higher education. Indeed, many of us have been directly impacted by these incredible programs. We are thankful for brothers like Conrad W. Hewitt '58, who donated $25,000 to launch Illinois Alpha's Chapter Leadership Endowment, the foundation's newest initiative. The brothers and friends of Illinois Alpha listed on page 2 have also been extremely helpful as we invest in the future of SigEp. By funding the Chapter Leadership Endowment, we can significantly cut down on our brothers' annual dues and cover the registration fees of these programs. Remember that there were alumni who came before us that gave back to Illinois Alpha and positively impacted our SigEp experience. Now is the time for us to pay it forward. The first benchmark we have set is $50,000, which will ensure that our seven executive officers can attend Carlson's two-day program in perpetuity. A balance of $110,000 will be needed to accommodate the young men of Illinois Alpha to attend Ruck, Carlson, and Grand Chapter Conclave in perpetuity. You can learn even more about the Chapter Leadership Endowment by visiting illinois.sigep.org. And as always, donations to our named scholarship endowments through the Vinci/Miller Scholarship Fund and the Matthew D. Anson Star and Scroll are always welcome. Our loyal alumni have made a huge difference at Illinois Alpha through generously donated money, time, and effort to advancing SigEp's ideals. Together, we can help the men of Illinois Alpha thrive for generations to come. Fraternally, Christopher S. Dillion '03 Chairman, Illinois Alpha Foundation Calling All Alumni Help Build Balanced Men at Illinois Alpha by Giving to the Chapter Leadership Endowment Illinois Alpha Cooperates with SigEp Headquarters Following Policy Violation I n early November, SigEp Headquarters staff became aware of a concerning policy violation related to Illinois Alpha. The Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC) and University were immediately notified of the violation. In the coming weeks, Headquarters staff and the University of Illinois will be working with the chapter to further investigate and address this incident. While the investigation is conducted, Illinois Alpha has agreed to cease any and all chapter activities for an indefinite period of time, as per Article V, Section 6 of the Grand Chapter bylaws and administrative policies and procedures. The request, effective November 5, applies to all facets of fraternity programming. Headquarters has received the resignation of all fall 2020 undergraduate officers as it conducts its review. The AVC is cooperating fully with Headquarters staff and our University partners in an effort to achieve the best possible outcome for Illinois Alpha. Updates will be forthcoming early next year. Questions can be directed to AVC President Lloyd Murphy '78 at (217) 369-5693 or lloyd@tuscola.net.
