The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended im- plementing a shortened quarantine period for asymptomatic contacts. Local public health authorities de- termine and establish the quaran- tine options for their jurisdictions. The CDC currently recommends a quarantine period of 14 days. How- ever, based on local circumstances and resources, the following op- tions to shorten quarantine are ac- ceptable alternatives. • Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring. • When diagnostic testing resourc- es are available, then quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic specimen tests negative and if no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring. The specimen may be collected and tested within 48 hours before the time of planned quarantine discontinuation (e.g., in anticipation of testing delays), but quarantine cannot be discontinued earlier than after Day 7. In both cases, additional crite- ria, including continued symptom monitoring and masking through Day 14) must be met. Although asymptomatic contacts would be released after day 10 (if no testing) or day 5-7 (if tested negative), everyone should contin- ue wearing a mask and notify public health or their healthcare provider if they develop any symptoms. Household contacts will still need to stay in quarantine for the full ini- tial quarantine period (the time that the case is in isolation). Then, when you would normally start the 14- day quarantine- you can implement these new CDC guidelines. Please continue to do your part to help slow down the spread!
