Nonetheless, we decided as a chapter to keep our connection with one another the utmost priority. Although it is true our university and Greek life organizations on campus are not operating regularly right now; we have done everything we can to stay connected with each other without jeopardizing the health of the community, and ourselves, while following all state health guidelines. A pandemic didn't stop ΑΛ during the Spanish Flu of 1918, and another global pandemic will not stop us today! During the summer, the house was sparsely occupied by a small number of brothers. They cleaned it constantly and maintained the house. Work week was slightly different this year than in past years. Only live-in members were allowed at the house and they worked in small groups to finish several projects. A few projects we finished were building a halfpipe for our skateboarding brothers and re-staining the deck. We just completed Fall Rush and recruitment was a remarkable success, with 39 new Associate Members joining! Greek life recruitment was forced to go 100% virtual by the university. We had to be innovative! Our recruitment chairmen worked incredibly hard to make the virtual events as fun as possible. We did normal talk on Zoom with rushes and hosted some events, such as online gaming amongst members and rushees. The university canceled Jump Day, so Alpha Lambda is doing everything socially, physically, and emotionally possible to provide a welcoming home for new members while following the guidelines placed on Greek organizations. Despite obstacles, Alpha Lambda is still trying ways to host a true rush event, philanthropy, brotherhood, chapter, or social event. Alpha Lambda respects and understands the new public health guidelines given to us. Through the creativity of our High Zeta, we have been able to host a few small brotherhood events and some larger virtual ones. Additionally, our High Alpha has a rotating group of nine join him in the chapter room when he hosts a virtual chapter. Our High Theta, Quinn Wilson, is working on a virtual Watermelon Bash philanthropy for this fall. Although it will be virtual, we believe the philanthropy event will be stronger than ever. By helping our brothers, we can help the system as a whole. Alpha Lambda is excited and looking forward to all the unique challenges this year throws us; and we are ready to go!
